This traveling exhibition, organized by the Syracuse University Art Collection, includes
all of the aquatints and a selection of the wood engravings and text pages.

Motherwell had made his first prints in 1943 and returned to printmaking in 1961 with such works as Poet I. Alone among the original Abstract Expressionist group to embrace printmaking enthusiastically, he subsequently produced a body of graphic work that includes A la pintura (1972), a limited edition book
of aquatints with letterpress texts, and more than 500 editions made in collaboration with workshops and printers in the United States and Europe.
ROBERT MOTHERWELL: I remember when in the last few years I made a series
of aquatints with the Gauloises blue cigarette package — because I love that blue — as part of the image, Helen Frankenthaler looking at me with stupefaction and saying, «I can't imagine you being a Pop artist.»
The former is also featured in the Face of the Poet series
of aquatints, as are several others including Allen Ginsberg, John Godfrey and Frank Lima.
Alongside the survey of 50 years of print - making, BAM is also pleased to exhibit a portfolio
of aquatints of fourteen New York poets, originally produced in 1978, alongside excerpts from each poet's work.
Ten years ago, the artist began work on his first small box - set

James Turrell's most recent collaboration with Pace Editions, Suite from Aten Reign — a suite
of aquatint etchings based on his Aten Reign installation at the Guggenheim — will be on view at Art Basel Miami Beach December 4 — 7, 2014.
Here, LeWitt uses the inherent quality
of the aquatint medium to showcase the vibrant palette produced by overlapping «2 and 3 part combinations «of primary colors and gray.
Steiger, who has worked in the printmaking medium

Once Webster approved the lithograph impression, a variety
of color combinations were developed until the final selection
of 10 colors was reached to completely fill in the composition, requiring three carborundum
aquatint plates.
When we first started, my inclination was to try to figure out how to make flat planes, and then we ended up doing this last print with a series
of eight to ten
aquatint planes, all gray tonalities on top
of the hard - ground etching.
