Family films and mild horror can coexist (
Arachnophobia and Gremlins come to mind), but by stuffing cloying scenes
of adorably smart canine activities (the dog plays Scrabble, types with a pencil in its mouth, and barks his answers — one bark for yes, two for no) in the middle
of some adult horror (eye gougings, decapitations, and grisly scenes
of bloodshed throughout), the two elements seem to work at odds to one another.

When the interior spyshot
of der W222 Sonderklasse came up I wasn't much liking the interior, especially the air - cond vents which I though would scare off anyone with
arachnophobia.
The phobias depicted in this book are not necessarily the obvious ones that typically form the basis
of horror films, such as
arachnophobia, the fear
of spiders, or (despite the immense attention given to a certain recent film) herpetophobia, fear
of snakes and other reptiles.
In fact there are thousands
of people who have an outright fear
of them, a specific phobia called
arachnophobia.
To take a human example:
arachnophobia would be treated by locking a person into a closet, releasing hundreds
of spiders into that closet, and keeping the door shut until the person stops reacting.
Just as in the example before in which money fell from the sky every time the patient suffering from
arachnophobia saw a spider, in the same way your dog will get treats (the best equivalent for human currency) every time he sees a stranger / hears a rumble
of thunder / sees another dog / hears the doorbell etc..
While, in my experience,
arachnophobia is waning as a popular fear, these little guys still command enough respect and fascination to draw a lot
of interest.
I LOVE this game, was always afraid
of the spiders due to my
arachnophobia.
I've yet to finish Farpoint, or had the pleasure to tackle it's two player co-op action yet — it's a horde mode, one which I'd imagine offsets the
arachnophobia with the soothing screams
of your online partner.
Yet the popular cultural fear
of the spider reinforced in films such
Arachnophobia (1990) sets up a duality inherent in a work structured on contradictions: it is both repellent as a cultural memory and attractive as a glistening material presence.
