You're given a heap
of audio logs and pages of backstory to trawl through for context, but it'll still perplex anyone who hasn't studied the Metal Gear timeline recently.
Customary collectibles are prevalent in the levels in the form
of audio logs, dog tags and legendary weapons found in the films.

of characters, this intriguing and mysterious storyline is certainly one
of the strongest reasons to continue playing the game.
Some
of this includes «ambient»
audio logs that play in the background, scenes on the computer screens to help players find out what's going on, and or cut scenes where players will meet NPCs that help unfold the backstory as well as the main story itself.
One issue I had with the first game that seems to have carried over is that
of collectible documents, which read out like
audio logs, but can not be played in the background.
In lieu
of dramaturgy, Infinite showcases its characters and themes through shorthand devices (signage, memorial engravings, diaries, confessional
audio logs, etc.).
The text and
audio logs do a good job
of setting the scene as well.
Cutscenes before and after important story missions give players a clear understanding
of what is at stake and the importance
of any given task, and there are also
audio logs and documents for players to find that provide more details about the fall
of the city during the Black Friday terrorist attacks.
Sadly the developers also use this opportunity to drop
audio logs into the mix, from which you'll glean insight into what has been going on without the unreliable narration
of T.O.M.. It's a little bit
of a shame to see
audio logs get used since they feel awkward within the story, but it's understandable I suppose.
Meanwhile, optional
audio logs that dig deeper into the lore can only be played via a static menu screen, necessitating a break from the action to listen to a minute or two
of laboured exposition.
While I got a measure
of satisfaction from forecasting the plot, I also enjoyed fleshing out the story with the random
audio logs placed throughout the world — and smashing rogue Corebots to pieces.
Dead Space, for example, is almost identical in its storytelling: almost no cutscenes are utilized, all dialog is spoken in - game, and dozens
of audio / video
logs develop the game's mysterious backstory.
The latest playable character, John Morgan, provides an average performance during the main narrative, yet in his
audio logs, his performance is believable, moving, and portrays an entirely new side
of the character.
What is surprising, however, is that the level
of voice acting provided in the game's
audio log collectibles not only provide some
of the most endearing stories in the game, but also deliver some top quality voice acting.
There was also a sort
of sad back story going on if you went after the
audio logs found along the way.
You even unlock
audio logs as you progress, each
of which details the world
of Metal Gear Survive.
Another cool feature is that
audio logs are played directly from the DualShock 4 Controller too which adds to the overall enjoyment factor
of the game.
These parts
of the games are really just for the fans I feel, the game does offer
audio logs for you to catch up on what has happened in the previous games but you have to go out
of your way to find them.
I usually listened to all the
audio logs while doing side ops so I got a lot
of the story from the cassettes between missions.
You periodically find notes &
audio logs (ala every old - school horror game ever) that fill you in on the story and at the end
of each zone, you're given a puzzle (so far, they've just been lame «Put these things in the right order» puzzles) which you gain bonus money if you manage to complete it with no help (if you get stuck, you can ask for hints which lowers the reward).
Stretch goals are rewards that incentivise people to keep donating after a Kickstarter has reached its goal and means that we will be receiving Mac and Linux versions
of the game (in addition to the PC, Xbox One and eventual PS4 versions), new areas, new crew members and new
audio logs.
Players may also find Peter's own backpacks scattered around the city and these will contain
audio logs of what happened to him from the day he became the Spider - Man (roughly eight years before the beginning
of the game).
Finally, the thorough subtitles and written transcripts
of in - game
audio logs also let deaf and hard
of hearing players fully enjoy this steam punk romp.
Well in this game you are constantly rewarded for exploring and you will stumble onto a number
of side quests, NPCs, resources, and even simpler things such as emails and
audio logs.
Bioshock is more like a combination
of the Metroid Prime style (lots
of optional
audio logs that reveal deeper stories, and sometimes important plots too), whereas Half - Life is more player - interaction based, and I think there were some easily miss - able (that I missed) newspapers clippings or other informations lying around.
There are also lots
of hidden collectibles to find and the
audio logs can add a bit to the story if one is so inclined to hunt them down.
The story is light, told through a series
of notes (which are added to the titular «book» inventory),
audio logs (which play when you clear a room with a television in the corner) and, more abstractly, «Forsaken Rooms», non-combat locations in which you find a ghostly child in need
of rescue.
Walking through ruins
of the old civilisation would be a dry exercise if not for this little device, which also lets you access
audio logs and texts which retain the kernel
of life from thousands
of years ago.
There are countless notes to read and
audio logs one can listen to, but due to my lack
of interest in the game's story, and most
of its characters, I kept ignoring them more and more.
Indeed, these
audio logs and the rest
of the voice acting is one
of the best qualities
of the game.
Collected through

Even the antagonist gets quite a bit
of depth and development if you pay attention to the
