Google and Kobo are the two most recent entrants on the retail
side of audiobook sales, but their business models are not exclusively aimed at audio.
In 2013, APA released a
study of audiobook sales that showed digital downloads eclipsing CD unit sales, accounting for 60.0 % of all audiobook units sold.
The main reason is that in Germany these two companies have corner stoned the market and represent 90 %
of all audiobook sales.
But 98 %
of audiobook sales are through Audible.
