Another area that is becoming increasingly important is the
translation of basic science research findings into clinical applications, and there is a growing need for physician scientists, says Alan Trounson, president of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM).
The clinical translation of our fundamental understanding of these pathways illustrates the
value of basic science research, and I hope this inspires other scientists.»
Moquin adds, «There are a lot of really intelligent, science - minded people who are only focused on medical school, and they don't realize that there's this alternative career
path of basic science research where you can help people by contributing to our wider understanding and knowledge of life.»
