I love buying a bunch
of local
berries and freezing most
of them to use in making
smoothies all winter.
It's been so beautifully sunny and warm in England recently, which meant that it was time to really get into summer cooking — beautiful salads, cold wild rice and quinoa dishes, grilled summer veggies with delicious dips, mountains
of guacamole with crudités, so many fruit
smoothies, raw desserts and bowls
of fresh
berries.
I usually just include spirulina in
smoothies, where the flavor gets masked by the sweetness
of the fruit, but that also means that its magical, aquamarine color will get lost among the numerous
berries that I put in my
smoothies.
I think that the reason it was maroon is that you used mixed
berries, the red
of strawberries / raspberries always turns my green
smoothies brown, also did you double the amount
of spinach to make up for the lack
of kale?
We have been turning fruit,
berries, vegetables and liquids into
smoothies practically every day for the past couple
of years.
If you want something heartier you can add less almond milk, so that it's thicker, and make a
smoothie bowl which you can then top with lots
of granola and
berries!

of a decadent dessert, but it's incredibly nourishing and nutritious — perfect for when you feel like indulging but don't want to get a sugar high.
This meant, when making
smoothies with goji
berries for instance, I'd end up with a reddish bitty sludge at the bottom
of the jug that wasn't desperately appealing.

When I made a raw chocolate and goji
berry smoothie, it was impossible to detect even a tiny bit

I always have frozen
berries on hand for a go to
smoothie but MUST start adding spinach to get some greens in I always hate that «day after coming home and nothing to eat» kind

I still love the classic pink
berry smoothie, but sometimes I simply crave something less sweet and something which gives me the feeling
of being super healthy, and starting the day by drinking vegetables is a pretty good way to go!

If I say the word «
smoothie» most
of you, myself inclusive, probably imagine a tall purple / pink drink, filled with
berries, milk, banana and other good stuff, and with the word «juice» apple and orange automatically follows.
Every morning I make some kind
of berry variation
smoothie.
When I see a
smoothie this bright I just know that there are lots
of berries mixed into it, and the brilliant thing about using them as a base is that if you don't have fresh ones on hand — just throw in some frozen
berries instead.
AND the belly is happy about it Let's start baking... well, not really Frozen
Berry Basil Non-Dairy
Smoothie Yields: 4 servings Ingredients: 2 cups
of So Delicious Vanilla Coconut Milk 2 cups
of So Delicious Strawberry Ice Cream 2 cups
of frozen strawberries (I buy fresh and put in freezer) 2 cups
of ice cubes 3 - 4 small fresh basil leaves (grab a few extra and set aside for garnishing) 1/2 cup
of frozen blueberries (again, I buy fresh and freezer myself) Directions: 1.
And love the idea
of adding the
berries, vitamin c, and leafy greens to a
smoothie to stay healthy during the winter.
Living by my motto
of the 80:20 principle and keepin» it real with you — I'm quite happy to admit that I have a box
of frozen
berries and a bag
of frozen mango in my freezer (which yes, I happily whiz up into
smoothies or raw porridge bowls in the middle
of winter).
Today I have a antioxidant
berry smoothie that is a lovely shade
of purple, perfectly festive for Easter.
This holiday detox
smoothie starts with a bottom layer
of tropical green
smoothie and is topped with a burst
of berry and beet - the perfect antidote to holiday eating while still being festive.
This stunningly purple antioxidant
berry smoothie is full
of anthocyanins, a type
of antioxidant most commonly found in
berries.
Try adding black
berries to your
smoothie to make it purple and get the benefit
of the greens too.
This
smoothie pretty much has it all, good source
of carbohydrates for energy from the banana, antioxidants in abundance from the
berries.

This is an older picture, as I forgot to snap one this week, but this is the chocolate
berry smoothie I've been enjoying for the last couple
of years.
Among my favorite recipes are my Choco -
Berry Smoothie Bowl, eggs with Food for Life's cinnamon raisin English muffins, pancakes, and any kind
of oatmeal - based cereal.
It's similar to my usual everyday
smoothie with
berries, bananas and greens, so I knew right away this would be one
of my faves.
For this rather pretty pink
smoothie I've opted for a mixture
of berries, pomegranate, soy milk and Dilmah Fragrant Jasmine Green Tea.
I make it constantly, and though I'm generally in too much
of a rush on weekdays to eat anything much fancier than a
smoothie or protein bar, I always look forward to a bowl
of yogurt topped with the chocolately good stuff and fresh
berries on weekends.
