When I finally had a chance to speak, we were already running over the 2 1/2 hours allotted for the roundtable, so I was only able to briefly touch on two
of my many message points: one, that the game can be and is being made safer, and two, that, based on my experience following a high school football team in Oklahoma this past season - which will be the subject

of the brain, and in rare
cases, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and in extremely rare instances, catastrophic injury or death.)
I showed a picture
of a child from Bangladesh who had died as a result
of unsafe bottle feeding, one
of the
cases studies in a 2014
report from the Bangladesh Paediatric Association.
In a
study released in 2009, poison control centers
reported more than 3,500
cases of carbon monoxide exposure in children under the age
of 19, proving how a carbon monoxide alarm is a must for everyone who owns a fireplace.
Among them were the Purdue and Rochester
studies of athletes in high school and college football [1,8,9,12,13, 31 - 38] and ice hockey, [8] which, as noted above, found subtle changes in cerebral function in the absence
of concussion symptoms or clinically measurable cognitive impairment which researchers linked to the volume
of head impacts, and a much publicized
case -
study autopsy
of a collegiate football player, Owen Thomas, with no
reported history
of concussions, which revealed early signs
of CTE.
The UK is taken as one
of 6
case studies in the Lancet articles, referencing a Save the Children
report (Breastfeeding: Policy Matters).
Furthermore, for those families in the
study who practiced «stretching diapers» (i.e. using a soiled diaper multiple times), more doctors visits and emergency room visits per year were
reported for
cases of diaper dermatitis and UTI's in young children.
In response to
reports that women may be using this unapproved drug, to increase milk production (lactation), the WHO and FDA are warning breastfeeding women
of safety concerns as «there have been several published

case studies of cardiac arrhythmias, cardiac arrest and sudden death in patients receiving an intravenous form
of domperidone that has been withdrawn from the market in a number

The Task Force based this recommendation on the European Concerted Actions on SIDS («ECAS»)
study, an analysis
of sudden unexplained infant death
cases reported in 20 different regions
of Europe (Carpenter et al 2004).

report on the UNICEF - GAIN partnership to control iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) documents 13
case studies - from Bangladesh to Ukraine - revealing successes and lessons learned in the design and implementation
of salt iodization programmes.
There has been concern raised about a resurgence
of vitamin D deficiency and rickets among infants and children, with
reports emerging in the United States from Alaska, 1,2 Iowa, 3 Nevada, 4 California, 5 North Carolina, 6 Texas, 7 and mother - infant pairs in Boston, 8 among others.9 The prevalence
of vitamin D deficiency in young children also appears to be high in other countries, including England, 10 Greece, 11 and Canada.12, 13 One
study from China found a 65.3 % prevalence
of vitamin D deficiency among 12 - to 24 - month - olds, but few
cases (3.7 %)
of radiographic or clinical rickets were noted.14 Previous
studies suggest risk factors to be dark skin pigmentation1,3 - 12 and breastfeeding without supplementation.1 - 7, 9,12,13 To date,
reports have focused primarily on young infants compared with toddlers.
And you'll quickly see that some
of the «
reporting» on this
study is quite flawed, and in a few
cases, downright inaccurate and missing the point entirely.
A 2015 KSHF - commissioned series
of case studies of 19 schools in seven states explored the effects
of these federal kitchen equipment grants on students and meal programs and found that equipment bought with these funds helped many schools overcome challenges
reported in the 2013
study.

Thirteen
of the 17 included
studies reported response rates for
cases ranging between 47 % and 98 %, and 10
studies reported response rates for control individuals ranging from 71 % to 95 %.
My new doctor also knew about the
case reports of seizures, but she brushed off the
study, saying it was too small to be conclusive.

of deaths shortly after immunization with diphtheria - tetanus - pertussis in the late 1970s created concern
of a possible causal relationship between vaccinations and SIDS.312, — , 315
Case - control
studies were performed to evaluate this temporal association.
Venneman and colleagues5 recently demonstrated that infants who are formula fed are twice as likely to die
of SIDS than breastfed infants based on a
case control
study of 333 SIDS
cases compared to 998 aged matched controls in Germany, from 1998 - 2001, consistent with previously published
reports.35 While no
studies show that co-sleeping in the form
of bedsharing, specifically, is imperative for breastfeeding enhancement, many
studies have shown that in order to get more sleep and to ease caring for their infants the decision to breastfeed often leads mothers to adopt routine bedsharing for at least part
of the night36 - 40 even where they never intended to do so.41, 42 Indeed, nearly 50 %
of breastfeeding mothers in the United States and Great Britain adopt bedsharing for some part
of the night,38,43 - 45 and breastfeeding women are twice as likely to sleep with their babies in the first month relative to mothers electing to bottle - feed.39
It is possible that the relations
reported by
case - control
studies may have been overstated as a result
of recall or interviewer bias.

When Danish architect and urbanist, Jan Gehl, was invited to undertake a
study of the quality
of London's public spaces in 2003, his final
report, Public Spaces and Public Life — London (2004), noted a particular absence
of children and the elderly on the streets
of the capital:
of all people observed in the
case studies, 95 % were between 15 — 64 years
of age.
