A combination
of circumstances induced me to leave India and enroll in the graduate program in what was then the department
of cellular and developmental biology at the University
of Arizona, Tucson, in the U.S. My Ph.D. supervisor, Neil Mendelson, had been a well - known name in DNA
replication and cell division in Bacillus subtilis, but by the time I had joined his lab, his interest had decidedly shifted to cell shape determination.
The rules
of the game were laid down by mathematician John Conway in 1970, but
cellular automata first took off in the 1940s when the late mathematician John von Neumann suggested using them to demonstrate self -
replication in nature.
Previous research had shown that Topisomerase II was involved in earlier
cellular processes like DNA
replication, and the enzyme was still detectable even during later phases
of meiosis.
Previous studies in the lab showed that once HCMV is inside the cell, it quickly becomes latent by entering the cell's nucleus and co-opting a
cellular protein called Daxx — part
of the intrinsic immune system — to shut down its own
replication, the process
of reproducing its genetic material to make more copies
of itself.
The consistent segregation
of these regions, in the same way in every cell, suggests that these processes could drive chromosome and genome folding and thus regulate important
cellular events such as DNA
replication and cell division.
Thus, the act
of responding to
cellular genome breaks inactivates the host's defenses to viral
replication.»
Interference with a host
of cellular functions tested and synergistic activities with a wide range
of other drugs is best explained by direct interaction with various DNA sequences and general interference with
replication and transcription, except for some effects exerted by binding to tubulin.
Dengue virus nonstructural protein 3 redistributes fatty acid synthase to sites
of viral
replication and increases
cellular fatty acid synthesis.
The damage that it will repair is the one that is causal in senenscence
of DNA pathway (such x-ray radiation causing senescence) and oncogenic activated senescence; but not
of the type
of replicative senescence (that's the domain
of telomeres / telomerase / sub-telomeres and epigenetics) and
cellular replication / proliferation.
The scope
of the journal encompasses all
of «traditional» molecular biology (including DNA
replication, recombination and repair, gene expression, RNA processing, translation, and protein folding, modification, and degradation) as well as studies
of the molecular interactions and mechanisms that underlie basic
cellular processes.
Characterizing the molecular pathways regulating genomic stability at damaged
replication forks in HR - deficient cancers will increase our understanding
of the
cellular response to replicative stress, and in the same time, potentially allow the identification
of new predictors (biomarkers)
of chemo - sensitivity / resistance in these tumors (Figure 2B).
The Reactome Knowledgebase (https://reactome.org) provides molecular details
of signal transduction, transport, DNA
replication, metabolism, and other
cellular processes as an ordered network
of molecular transformations - an extended version
of a classic metabolic map, in a single consistent data model.
Enzymes are essential for energy production, synthesis
of biological molecules, gene repair and
replication, maintenance
of cellular and tissue structural integrity, and normal physiological function.
Zinc plays a vital role in the health
of the body by supporting
cellular metabolism (wound healing,
cellular renewal, DNA and RNA
replication) and immune function.
Interferons may have multiple mechanisms
of action in viral diseases for example modulating
cellular and immune functions and impairing virus
replication.
