While the picture is of a very definite increase in care - taking by fathers in two parent families, there is another group of fathers who do not live with their children through separation / divorce, or who have never lived with them, although many of these are co-resident with other men's children (Radhakrishna et al, 2001).

In 36 per cent of dual earner families it is the father, more than any other individual, who cares for children while the mother is at work.

And while we care about our children and monitor what they do we can not be there every moment of the day.

While I didn't care enough about the sex of my children to use any of these outside influences, I can understand a little about where the impulse comes from (except for Francis, because I can't even with that guy).
