Let's explore just a few of the many benefits your dog can get from the addition
of coconut oil into their diet:
You can put a tablespoon
of coconut oil into a little container — and add a few drops of essential oil like Dgest Zen — and then rub that on the belly as needed.
I put the 1/2 tsp
of coconut oil into the skillet and let it melt, then swirl the paper towel around the skillet using the tongs to make sure all surfaces are coated evenly.

For some reason
coconut oil doesn't absorb very well
into my skin — it tends to stay on top
of it and then just come off, allowing my legs to just go dry again.

The reason that the
oil to berry ratio is so high is because I came up with this recipe for the sole purpose
of getting more
coconut oil into our diet.
Heat 1 tsp
coconut oil into a cast iron skillet over medium heat, and add 1/4 cup
of the batter

of water) 1 tablespoon minced ginger (make your own at home) 3 — 4 cups water 1/2 cup canned
coconut milk Juice from 1 — 2 sweet oranges * 2 teaspoons sugar (or maple syrup / other sweetener), adjust quantity to taste 4 — 5 stems curled parsley, finely chopped Other dried herbs (thyme, herbes de Provence...) if desired, optional Salt and pepper to taste
If you really get
into making your own
coconut oil bites, I highly recommend owning a small collection
of silicone molds — they make the process very easy, plus they're cute!

Meanwhile... Make the crust: — Mix together almond and cashew meal (or whatever you have) with a mix
of honey and
coconut oil (or you can just do one or the other or butter — I like the mix because then it's sweet but not too sweet) until it is a sticky dough consistency — Press
into the pie pan and chill until you're ready for it — Pour in the hot blueberry mixture — stir in some fresh blueberries for fun!

Place about 1/3 cup
of the batter
into the waffle iron and sprinkle a bit

coconut oil or butter to keep sugar from sticking), then close the iron and cook according to your iron's directions.
I added in 1 Tbsp
of cocoa powder with the dry ingredients to make this more chocolatey and used canola

of coconut oil, then when I made it I put the mixture
into muffin cups and pressed down as hard as I could with a spoon.

For an easy way to make your own crispy tofu at home, simply do the following: (1) press a 14 or 16 ounce block
of extra firm tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess water (lay tofu on a cutting board, top with lots
of paper towels, and then top with a heavy book or pot); (2) chop the tofu
into cubes; (3) toss tofu with 1 1/2 tablespoons
of coconut aminos (or soy sauce or tamari) along with 1 tablespoon melted
coconut oil and red chili flakes; (4) add in 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch and toss to coat; (5) spread tofu cubes out on a parchment paper - lined baking tray; (5) Bake at 400 degrees Farenheit for 25 minutes until crispy and golden on the outside, tossing halfway through cooking time.
But in the end it's important to remember the body needs plenty
of natural fats in order to function properly, and
coconut oil is a great way to work those fats
into your diet.
Many with Alzheimer's lose their appetite and won't eat, so if they prefer the flavor
of coconuts over peanut or almond butter, then maybe they will get some much needed fat
into their systems if they eat the
coconut oil while they are refusing the nut butters.
Coconut oil really is surprisingly easy to incorporate
into daily cooking once you get the hang
of it.
For the most part, I cook and bake with
coconut oil, which helps get a lot more
of it
into my diet without much effort.
Beyond that, the recipe basically involves melting together the
coconut oil / butter, peanut butter, and honey, then stirring the resulting mixture
into a bowl
of rolled oats and roasted peanuts.
