My view of the matter is that the anger and fear displayed in
some of the comments above are testimony to the extent to which Lawyers Real Estate is perceived as a disrupter throught the implementation of its Blue Ocean strategy.
I mentioned it in one
of my comments above, and as you may recall I wrote a post about it: http://bobtisdale.blogspot.com/2010/05/giss-deletes-arctic-and-southern-ocean.html
The cynicism and denial in many
of the comments above are frighteningly familiar in their self - serving perspective, and the denial about the world we're willing to leave our children.
In response to
some of the comments above: the conclusion as stated by Oreskes is stronger than my paraphrasing of it, and I've edited my original post to make this clear.

I don't agree with
some of the comments above who feel that the rasmus» explanation is too technical, and actually I think it is something that could be understood by a majority of the interested public.
Many
of the comments above are right on the mark.
Despite your stated intention to keep this website to strictly scientific concerns, and avoid the political and economic, you are going to be inevitably drawn into the wider discussion precisely through the public's lack of understanding of the philosophy and methodology of science (in, for example, several
of the comments above).
None

of comments above and I think that people just have different levels of what they want to achieve.

some of your comments above in the replies.
