Back to a
cool and very comfortable climate, a clean and familiar bed, my bike, all
of our friends and my own
kitchen and cooking, hurrah!
I can remember countless times being in the
kitchen with my two brothers and my Mom, making a huge batch
of chocolate chip cookies, and it was always so much fun to help mix up the batter, carefully scoop out the cookie dough on the pans, and wait anxiously until the timer went off and they were
cool enough to eat.
Nothing like a
cool crisp day with the smell
of cinnamon - y spices wafting through the
kitchen.
When you can, you might want to do any
of the necessary cooking in the
cooler morning hours, so you won't be heating up the
kitchen right before mealtime.
The weather
cools down, the gorgeous autumn leaves begin to blossom, my UGGS come out
of their shoe boxes, the smell
of freshly baked pumpkin goods surrounds the
kitchen every weekend and
of course, warm, hearty soups soothe the soul with every spoonful.
If you use your broiler instead
of a handheld
kitchen torch (available at
kitchen stores), be sure to let the crust
cool thoroughly to crisp up before serving.
I left mine in the broth to
cool after removing it from the heat but when I'm in a big hurry to get out
of the
kitchen, I just simmer it a little longer to make sure it's completely cooked.
The weather is turning
cooler, and
of course my thoughts head straight to the
kitchen.

This month, I was assigned BC Mom's
Kitchen, a wonderful blog with a lot
of cool recipes I have bookmarked to make for later.
Nobody likes to heat up the
kitchen in summer, and often times I find myself whipping up a
cool but hearty quinoa tabbouleh salad, and passing a plate
of something to grill over to the capable grill master.
I learned a
cool tip for using
kitchen shears to slice the green onion directly into your bowl or pan instead
of using a knife which tends to tear the onion more easily.
Everytime I make these, my kids are running to the
kitchen, barely being able to hold on until the
cool off before they take a handful
of them and go back to playing.

In the
cool English winter, many an evening was spent around the
kitchen stove, laughing and joking, as a jar
of Nutella was passed from spoon to spoon.
Speaking
of those frozen peaches in my
kitchen, I'll have to remember this recipe once it
cools down enough to turn on my oven — right now, I'm strictly a stovetop cook, but this looks delicious, Deb!

of a wooden or plastic
kitchen serving spoon and poke holes in the top
of cake all over.
I made them at home in my own
kitchen (oh how I miss my
kitchen) the day before I high tailed it out
of Santa Barbara to escape the smoke, and not wanting them to go to waste, I packed them still inside their molds into a

of ice packs and toted them along with me up to Northern California for future enjoyment.

And there's no better season than winter to have the smell
of fresh baked bread in the house, to hear in a quiet clean
kitchen the sound
of a bread crust crackling as it

also, there is a small amount
of yeast in proportion to the flours and grains, so if your artisan style dough is not moist enough, be prepared for a LONGGGGG rise, definitely plan on the 4 hours, even more in a

Well at the same time I did that Paul, the editor
of Vasili's Garden to
Kitchen Magazine, interviewed me for a piece in the magazine, under the title celebrity chef, how
cool is that (me a celebrity, lol) Well the magazine is now out and you can get your copy from the Garden centre in Coburg or from the website.
But you can totally bake these in the oven like a normal person, and so I've included directions in the recipe for the lazy people out there like me who aren't afraid
of microwaves and for those that prefer things done traditionally — and who have a
cool kitchen that doesn't smell like boxed cheese pizza — so you can bake them in the oven too if you wish.
To make rejuvelac, I add 1/2 cup
of organic quinoa to a glass gallon jar, fill it with water, cover it with a dishtowel, and place it in a
cool corner
of my
kitchen.
