I found the amount
of custard powder too much that I had to add 50 % extra butter too get to a good consistency.
When I added extra milk the flavor
of the custard powder was rather nasty and over powering.

That said, I use 2 tablespoons Byrd's
custard powder instead
of the yolks myself, to thicken the spread but not worry about raw egg yolks.
