There are other
children with needs to be tended to, emails to be answered,
dogs to be let outside, and the constant scanning
of the household environment to make sure nothing is being destroyed or set on fire.

of Health, companion animals — like

«When I compared the social skills
of children with autism who lived
with dogs to those who did not, the
children with dogs appeared to have greater social skills,» said Gretchen Carlisle, research fellow at the Research Center for Human - Animal Interaction (ReCHAI) in the MU College
of Veterinary Medicine.
Results showed that for kids who underwent the stressful experience
with their pet
dogs,
children's cortisol level varied depending on the nature
of the interaction
of children and their pets.
«Finding
children with autism to be more strongly bonded to smaller
dogs, and parents reporting strong attachments between their
children and other pets, such as rabbits or cats, serves as evidence that other types
of pets could benefit
children with autism as well,» Carlisle said.
There are thousands

«We found a mother's exposure to
dogs before the birth

child is significantly associated
with lower risk
