of ebooks in libraries continues to grow as well (though still not to every librarian's satisfaction): 35 percent of library users now say that they know their library offers ebooks.

Libraries are the largest consumer
of books
in the country, but their relationship with

Refusal to simplify pricing models, and refusal to inter-operate among e-readers and lending systems, means that

As I said
in a previous post, once again I'm dependent on public
library borrows for most
of my books, and though they have access to some
eBooks through Overdrive, most
of the books I'm looking for are not among them.
Library Directwill allow
libraries to bundle books
in Smashwords» catalog and select the books based on sales ranking; partnered with the new Pricing Manager which allows authors and publishers to set the prices that
libraries will pay, even opting to make their titles free to
libraries, the amount
of ebook titles that
libraries can offer to patrons will increase.

I loved the idea
of Shelfie but when I tried it, I found that the print books
in my
library were not available as
ebooks through Shelfie.
Today the Axis 360 platform now allows
library patrons to have access to all
library materials from the online catalog — whether physical or digital — and creates a convenient experience for borrowing and enjoying
ebooks and digital audiobooks
in the patron's favorite reading apps and on their device
of choice.
With all
of the emphasis on digital content
in libraries, it is odd that
ebooks were severely underrepresented.
The digital reading space has come a long way from the era
in which public
libraries had little to offer
in the way
of ebooks, digital magazines, or digital newspapers.
This program will serve a twofold purpose, first
in offering
libraries and their patrons even more
ebook content for lending programs, and second
in terms
of helping indie authors
in the process
of getting their books discovered by a larger public audience.

in the world that facilitates the lending process
of ebooks to your local
library.
So, the reason for buying an
ebook even if it's available to borrow from the
library is the same reason you would want to buy a print book rather than check it out — you want to re-read it or you want to have your copy — whether physically on the bookshelf
in your home or on the shelf
of your ereader.
The goal
of this survey is to ensure that 3M stays
in tune with the rapidly changing needs
of eBooks in public
libraries.
