Tracing the course
of the author's work from Typee to Billy Budd, Kelley shows convincingly that Melville — though he borrowed from many different sources — belongs completely to none
of the established genres
of Victorian city writing: the Romantic pastoral that used urban depravity to extol rural virtue; the popular «Reform
Literature»
of the yellow journalists that sensationalized municipal corruption and disorder; the «scientific» tracts
of the
emerging city planning movement; or the urban strolls
of the flâneur and the Addisonian «spectator» (a genre that reached its peak, for New York, with what Kelley calls the «humorous - genteel - sentimental - melodramatic - ironic» observations
of Charles Dickens in his 1842 American Notes).
There it was natural to begin with the history, for while some very early folksongs antedate any written history and the prophecy
of Amos was the earliest complete book, an important part
of the history found in the Old Testament was written before any other major type
of literature emerged.
At the same time in France, another Catholic revival had
emerged, guided by novelists Georges Bernanos and François Mauriac and poets Paul Claudel and Pierre Reverdy, all
of whom were widely read in the U.S.. Another factor inspiring American Catholic authors, a disproportionate number
of whom were Irish - American, was the rise
of modern Irish
literature.
Yet she sensed the corrosive effects
of individualism, and her uncanny intelligence and attention to the details
of social surface enabled her to give us one
of literature's sharpest portraits
of this
emerging reality.
We have seen how different types
of literature emerged out
of differing circumstances and out
of the diverse purposes and temperaments
of the authors.
The curricular expressions
of this impulse were English
literature courses which
emerged by the turn
of the century and the inventions
of the Western Civilization and humanities courses.
The lectures must remedy each other, so that out
of the series there shall
emerge a collective
literature worthy
of the importance
of the theme.
The arts and
literatures emerged, and the religions, and philosophies, laws, the sciences and technologies — and thus man's cultures and civilizations, with new orders
of good and evil, beauty and ugliness, truth and deception.
An
emerging body
of literature in adults has begun to establish clear associations between gut microbiome composition and a wide range
of health outcomes.1 - 6 In contrast, comparatively little is known about the gut microbiome in infants and children, the exposures that shape it, and its lifelong health effects.7 Although limited in their size and scope, a number
of studies have established associations between intestinal microbiome profiles in infants, delivery mode, and / or breast milk exposure.8 - 15 These factors both have long - term health consequences.

emerged on the ethics, legality and economic promise
of pricing optimization.
There is a finely graded inverse association between age and cognitive performance, 3 4 5 but the age at which cognitive decline becomes evident at the population level remains the subject
of debate.5 6 7 A recent review
of the
literature concluded that there was little evidence
of cognitive decline before the age
of 60.8 This point
of view, however, is not universally accepted.5 6 Clinicopathological studies show good correlation between neuropathology and the severity
of cognitive decline, 9 10 11 and neurofibrillary tangles and amyloid plaques, the hallmarks
of pathology, are known to be present in the brains
of young adults.12 13
Emerging consensus on the long gestation period
of dementia14 15 also suggests that adults aged under 60 are likely to experience age related cognitive decline.
A number
of hypotheses for the low glacial CO2 concentrations have
emerged over the past 20 years, and a rich body
of literature is available (Webb et al., 1997; Broecker and Henderson, 1998; Archer et al., 2000; Sigman and Boyle, 2000; Kohfeld et al., 2005).
These articles offer a balanced account
of newly
emerging or rapidly progressing fields and provide a guide to the most relevant recent
literature and prospects for future research.
In combination with this approach, inhibitors
of DNA methylation and / or histone deacetylases are expected to relieve repression
of DAPK tumor suppressors, whose epigenetic silencing has
emerged as a recurring theme from our work and throughout the
literature.
There is also
emerging literature demonstrating a relationship between the timing
of feeding and weight regulation in animals.
Two important conclusions
emerged from the review
of the
literature and consensus statements.

of research have begun to
emerge in an effort to develop a more theoretically (e.g., see Crocco, 2001; Doolittle, 2001; Doolittle & Hicks, 2003; Lee, 2008) and empirically (e.g., see Brush & Saye, 2001, 2002; Doering & Veletsianos, 2007; Hicks & Doolittle, 2008; Larson, 2003; Manfra, & Lee, 2012; Saye & Brush, 2002, 2006, 2007; Shin 2007) informed
literature base within the social studies.
In a review
of the
literature related to the use
of video in teacher education, Sherin (2003) concluded that two affordances
emerge when using video: (a) video allows for a permanent record
of classroom occurrences that can be viewed repeatedly to ensure capture
of classroom complexity and student - teacher interactions, and (b) video provides the opportunity for teachers to develop an «analytic mind set» (p. 13).
