The
essays collected in the latest
of the pop culture and philosophy series offer insights about how Nietzsche's exploration
of the positive power
of active forgetting can illuminate the Draper, Pete Campbell and Peggy Olson characters; a comparison between the social
structure of Sterling Cooper and an Aristotelian definition
of friendship; and a glimpse into the Existential Void
of Roger Sterling.
The present book looks at the organizational dimension
of the Presbyterian (and mainline) «predicament» in twelve
essays, dealing with denominational
structures; financial changes; women's, men's, and special - interest groups; and in two provocative concluding
essays, some speculative conclusions about where the changes have brought us.
The key point here, at least for our purposes in this
essay, is that the
structured society or field
of activity is «alive» because
of the interrelated individual agencies
of all its constituent occasions.
Furthermore, and even more importantly for the purpose
of this
essay, it would likewise allow Whiteheadians to talk about actual occasions as indeed occasions, i.e., events, taking place within a pregiven environment or
structured field
of activity.
My reading
of Bonhoeffer's
essay «The
Structure of Responsible Life» resonated with the moral arguments put forward by the ANC.

of the term; although their individual molecules are

Since a
structured society can not be an enduring object, Cobb can not use the Process and Reality, An
Essay in Cosmology 151 discussion
of subordinate societies to justify his claim that molecules are enduring objects.
In a widely noticed
essay in 1991 the lawyer - activist Nan Hunter argued, with an unsettling directness, that «the impact
of [gay and lesbian marriage] will be to dismantle the legal
structure of gender in every marriage.»
As examples, the second and third
essays of Paul (4:17 - 7:40 and 8:1 - 11:1) do not seem to exactly fit the prophetic homily

of the internal pieces also seem forced into unnatural forms.
In a recent reconstructive

of «the political branch
of Hinduism» in Vedic times, and «the trap the BJP is leading us into today».9 This involves the task
of consolidating a hierarchically - ordered socio - political
structure for Hindu society reflecting true religious Dhanna and controlling these classes / castes in order «to keep people in their place [so as] to keep them from getting above themselves».10 Perhaps this is the reason that nationalism, in its Orientalist form, is so pervasive in contemporary India.
