The movie diminishes the role
of its own
female lead, mishandles its
characters of color, and gives women and POC no meaningful impact on the final story.
However, despite controversy over accusations
of misogyny and subjecting his
characters on screen (not to mention the actresses who play them) to his artistic and narrative tyranny, he has helped his
female leads deliver remarkable performances.
As a mainstream movie co-written by a woman, with a
female lead and mostly featuring other
female characters, it is something
of a rarity.
