The rectangular shaped black plastic engine air filter box is located to the left
of the fuse box, to the right of the brake fluid reservoir and behind the 12V automotive battery.
It could be you're misreading the layout
of the fuse box.
The exact same method is used to replace the $ 30 ELD inside the sealed portion
of the fuse box, for those experiencing the headlight intermittent dimming / brightening phenomenon.
After much poking and prodding (and contact cleaner), it turned out that the case that held the two sides
of the fuse box together had become slightly disfigured (i have a habit of hitting speed bumps at 30 + mph), after much electrical tape and super glue the box is now fully closed and secured to the car again.
If they don't there is a break or burn inside
of the fuse box.
You can see on the inside of the lid
of the fuse box that there is a diagram which tells you what is for what.
It should have the entire layout
of your fuse box with descriptions to which ones the relays are and what they go to.
Q. IS the headlight relay inside this covered / almost sealed right side
of the fuse box?
I've recharged the battery (now 12.5 V) but when I connect the terminals a whirring sound (like a fan) comes from a small box to the front left
of the fuse box - this is with no ignition on.
I looked at the cover
of the fuse box above (pic below).
Neither one
of the fuse boxes have relays in it concerning the power windows.
Not exact matches
No matter how much power is available, the
fuse box only lets a certain amount
of power through.
And no matter how much power you pump into that
fuse box, only ten amps are going to get through, and if you try to send in more, you keep experiencing the frustration
of having your
fuse break.
This packs what would normally require large
boxes of computer equipment into a single laptop, to allow an intelligence analyst to
fuse maps, overlays, videos, Wikipedia - style reports and even electronic warfare emissions.
In most cases, what you get for your money is a
box with three or four 9 volt batteries connected in series with a switch to turn it on, a light bulb in the circuit which will light up if the terminals are accidentally touched together (it acts as a
fuse which won't blow in case
of a short circuit), a couple
of leads with clips and two silver electrodes which in most cases are small gauge silver wires.
Most ECUs switch the Ground
of relays and the Live would be supplied from the
fuse box.
For the sake
of this example, I'll guess it's a
fuse in the
fuse box.
They are part
of a Relay - Control - Unit (RCU) that is built into the under side
of the Engine Compartment

of the steering column, underneath some controls.

fuses you still haven't checked added with aftermarket components that are not in one
of the car's
fuse boxes and replace as necessary
Can not find the 12v
fuse, and for that matter an ID for any
of the other
of the many
fuses in the
box.
However, it should involve running a new length
of [appropriate gauge] wire from the
fuse box, through the firewall, to the headlight.
The ignition wires are generally only intended to power the ignition - if you want to run anything else you are better off taking an appropriate feed from the
fuse box, or a relayed feed from the battery, depending on the power draw
of the intended application.
If it's done by a relay, you'd have to find the relay and change it out with a known good one (usually located under the hood
of the car in the under hood
fuse box portion).
After determining that the bulb was OK, we looked in the
fuse box, and saw that one
of the two 7.5...
I'm guessing, I've got to pull all that black casing
of the wiring and trace that pink wire from the X1 connector back to the
fuse box?
I wiggled the wiring harness behind the
fuse box with no replication
of the issue.
To remove the
fuses take the 3 bolts on the side out that hold the black cables to the
fuse box, the loosen with a thin flathead on the front part
of the
fuse and lift.
This isn't a complete answer: it appears that common
fuse box locations on the mercs are near the hinges
of the hood in the engine compartment and under the rear seat (to the side rather than directly beneath).
Check for power on both sides
of fuse # 6 in the underhood
fuse box.
Also, the
fuse box is on the outside
of this panel, so it's connected to some pretty delicate looking wiring.
After using an improvised variant
of this method to confirm that it was indeed an electrical problem with no power reaching the spark plug wires, I had a closer look at my
fuse box, and specifically the «EFI» (fuel injection sytem)
fuse.
Another spot would be on the extreme left
of the dashboard: open the driver's side door and check for a
fuse box there as well.
Discovering that they'd done this with literally half the
fuses in the
fuse box and replacing all these bodged
fuses with real, fresh
fuses was part
of the job I'd done with the previous non-starting problem, before the engine stopped starting in this way.
Details: Moisture containing road salt could enter the battery junction
box and cause corrosion
of the
fuse and wiring terminals, resulting in a loss
of electrical connectivity in some powertrain circuits, which might cause the vehicle to stall, as well as exterior lighting.
If the owner
of a 2009 Subaru Forester notes that the power door locks don't work, look at connector B52 on the back
of the interior dashboard

I will say that it did have the expected Chevy transfer case replacement at approx. 130,000 miles, and the
fuse box under the hood is not designed to support the amount
of running lights trailers are equipped with.
JLT Performance had the answer by color matching several
of the components in Ingot Silver, including coil covers, Redline Tuning bolt - in hood lifters, coolant and intercooler tank covers, along with a hydro - dipped carbon fiber
fuse box and radiator cover.
Gently push in the release tab on the front
of the cover before pulling it straight off the
fuse box.
Lift the
fuse panel out
of the
box and carefully turn it over to access the electrical
fuses and relays.
