Common Symptoms
of Congenital Heart Disease in Pets: Swelling
of the Abdomen, Swelling
of the Limbs, Rapid or Labored Breathing, Tires Easily, Lethargy,
Generalized Weakness, Coughing, Fainting, Stunted Growth and Irregular Heart Beats / Heart Murmurs.
Muscular dystrophy: a congenital and often inherited form
of generalized muscle dysfunction which causes signs such as poor growth,
weakness, abnormal gait, dificulty eating and swallowing, and muscle atrophy.
Generalized myopathy: a condition affecting all the muscles
of the body which produces
weakness.
They are: lethargy,
generalized weakness, inactivity, mental dullness, unexplained weight gain, hair loss, excessive hair shedding, poor hair growth, dry or lusterless haircoat, excessive scaling in the skin, recurring skin infections, intolerance to cold, and rarely, tilting
of the head to one side, seizures, and infertility.
Some
of the medical conditions that older dogs experience include arthritis (hip / elbow dysplasia), intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), degenerative myelopathy / neuropathy, obesity, and
generalized weakness.
If your dog has severe bloody diarrhea, or is showing more
generalized signs
of illness such as
weakness, fever, vomiting, abdominal pain or loss
of appetite, or if dehydration accompanies the diarrhea, the cause may be more serious.
If there is excessive loss
of potassium this can lead to
generalized muscle
weakness, paralytic ileus, and even cardiac arrhythmias which can adversely affect the delivery
of oxygen and nutrients to the cells.
