Having never been much of a fan
of genre labels, the idea that this film should be judged differently because it has female stars irks me a bit, but if that gets more people into theatre seats and away from the junk that typically qualifies as «entertainment for women,» I'll happily embrace it.

Although usually called CCM for «Contemporary Christian Music,» that
label not only confuses the
genre with the University
of Cincinnati's famous music school (CCM: the College — Conservatory
of Music) but also suggests an affinity between it and the masterpieces
of Messiaen, Penderecki, Tavener, and a host
of other contemporary Christian art composers — with which it has little.
These last two phrases are applicable to White's own work, which has been saddled — unfairly, to my mind — with the
label of genre fiction.

This tense indie film defies
genre labels, as it mixes elements
of crime films and thrillers with, surprisingly, romantic comedies.
The game is, on the surface, an open - world urban adventure title that fits in pretty well alongside contemporary examples
of the
genre (GTA, Saints Row, etc); you've got story missions that move the narrative forward and side missions that offer some sort
of bonus to your stats or inventory, all conveniently
labeled with radar blips on the maps
of the sprawling cities you can explore.
Don Cheadle stars and directs this fluid biopic
of jazz legend Miles Davis, in which the actor has distanced himself from the term «biopic» much like Davis moved away from the

It's officially a
genre film festival, but as long as I've attended, it's featured a lineup
of diverse films that expand beyond the confines
of that
label.
I find a pair
of biopics (the film flavor
