Recently
~ after giving a presentation on
gifted education to students at the University
of South Florida
~ one
of them asked about a topic that often scares aspiring educators away from working with
gifted children.
It all comes down to using what works best with
gifted children ~ which stems from effectively educating teachers about working with the giftedthe topic
of my next blog.
While this is obviously a made - up conversation
~ based on my experience with
gifted children ~ I am sure some
of these concerns - as well as others - would come up.
Some have claimed thatgifted students receive special treatment
~ and that those
children unable to pass entrance requirements to
gifted programs
~ fail to receive the same types
of services.
Recently

After receiving questions about what their
gifted child could do over the summer
~ I proposed the idea
of having my students continue their independent research or create new research projects to work on during the summertime.
As a teacher
of gifted ~ who uses the independent study method with my first - through - fifth - grade students
~ I face the challenge
of guiding
children through the research process.
