With 55g
of whole
grains (which is more than the suggested 48g per
day), this was a great way for me to get the fiber and complex carbs I need to keep me going.
Most
of the time that looks like a traditional Paleo template, eliminating gluten, most
grains and dairy, soy, legumes, refined sugars and processed food, but not exclusively all
day, every
day.
The kids and I have always enjoyed making cookies together — from back in the
days of store bought «slice n bake» to gluten free mixes to to homemade
grain free.
One
of ways I simplify meal preparation is by cooking a batch
of grains, such as rice or quinoa, every couple
of days.
With more than 20 different Nature's Own breads and rolls, including 100 % whole wheat, 100 % whole
grain, and sprouted
grain varieties, we make it easy to eat 3 (ounce - equivalent) or more servings
of whole
grain each
day.

Seriously, I could eat it any time
of day — and without any refined sugar or
grain, it's practically healthy!
I couldn't eat a lot
of them at any rate, because these
days, anything with
grain flours sits in my stomach like a lead brick.
In our experiments, we found that after 3
days, 2 cups
of coconut milk with 1 Tablespoon
of kefir
grains had a refreshing, lightly tangy aroma.
Thankfully, I plan ahead more these
days with simple solutions for success, like putting up portions
of leftover steak in the freezer for future salads, meal prepping a week's worth
of whole
grains like quinoa or oatmeal, and placing my scoops
of protein powders and recovery drinks into single - serve baggies for a grab - and - go before the gym.
I wouldn't put it passed me to have shuffled a stack
of chocolate chips and glass
of milk into my face and called it the most important meal
of the
day once or twice, but I'm talking about these bad boys, that you can actually eat for breakfast and still earn your gold star for whole
grains and fruit first thing in the morning.
I had spent the majority
of my life drinking at least 1 glass
of milk per
day so when the «No
grains, dairy or legumes» rule came out, I...
But one
day while making regular coconut milk kefir, I accidentally dumped my water kefir
grains (instead
of the milk kefir
grains) and about 1/4 cup
of pre-made water kefir into the wrong container.
I just like the idea
of having a
grain free granola in your back pocket in case you don't feel like
grains that
day or you're eating paleo.
At the end
of the
day though,
grains are a food group that contains no essential nutrients that we can't get in much greater amounts from animal foods or vegetables.
For me personally this is more important than whey protein, I can eat meat all
day and not really get bored
of it but eating carbs such as sweet potatoes and long
grain rice 4/5 times a
day has always been a task never mind cooking and storing it all first!

of cooking once, eating twice (I never eat leftovers after the second
day though) and cooking
grains like rice ahead in advance.
