I have one purely academic question relating procedures

graphs of data accross different latitudes, like the ones you copy from Sherwood's

of Thompson's
paper for the specific method used.
In a scientific
paper, a selective or misleading
graph may be
of little consequence (except
for the author's reputation), as scientific readers are familiar with the further data and the previous scientific discussions, so they can easily judge the merits
of an argument.

of emission scenario;

Well yes, * these *
graphs are powerful because
of those extensions, but I truly don't understand why this
paper has attracted much interest since the basic shape
of Holocene global surface temps has been known
for over a decade.
It should not have been used
for this
paper because the authors were clearly decrying the practice
of inserting instrumental data onto proxy
graphs to conceal declining temperatures... and correctly noting that most proxy data shows cooling after 1980.
A & M reference about 20 NH proxy location
papers in their bibliography, so I wrongly made the assumption that perhaps the reason
for the resemblance to Moberg et al. (2005) but not perfect match (years) was because they added several more proxies to the shape
of their
graph.
These are the key areas
for a scientis to examine a
paper and any reference on writing sciencen
papers will explain the imprortance
of doing so (this is not a «style complaint»... he actually is HARD TO ASSESS, since the
graphs are so bad.)
Unfortunately, the temperatures indicated in the samples selected
for the Marcott thesis and the Marcott et al
paper diverged sharply with the instrument record to the point
of creating a reverse hockey stick
graph.
He then claimed,
for the first time, that the
paper was a hoax, because he was forced to remove 40 pages
of criticism
of the seminal Mann, Bradley Hughes ’99 hockey stick
graph before it could be published.
Mr. Watts, while you are presenting this new study by Melvin et al. as something that provides results which allegedly refute Mann's hockey stick you do not tell your audience here that the temperature reconstruction shown in the
graph, explicitly mentioned by you here, in the Melvin et al
paper is done only
for a region
of Northern Scandinavia, unlike the temperature reconstruction in Mann et al., (1999), doi: 10.1029 / 1999GL900070, which was a reconstruction
of the Northern Hemispheric temperature.
It was an excellent and thorough
paper on the changes in Estonian swamp vegetation in the last 30 years, with many many beautiful
graphs, but
for me there was just one question — namely there, in the
paper, there was absolutely no evidence or even indication that these these changes were the the result
of global warming!
