If the publisher's website looks poorly
designed, out
of date, or amateurish, that's not a
great sign — although, to be fair,
book publishers are somewhat notorious for having bad websites.
A
great many authors find themselves with
books over 100,000 words and when told about the costs
of designing and printing a
book of that length, do not know what to do next.
If I think you need it, I'll remake your
book cover, but you have to be willing to trust my judgment (I charge a lot
of money for
book cover
design, so you're getting a
great deal already.)
I would add on the side
of traditional publishing that 1) It is easier to get national publicity because producers give more weight to a traditionally published
book, particularly from a larger house (though some self - published authors certainly do get national publicity as well — it's just harder, in general and 2) a traditional publisher is generally going to bring a

of experience to the table — from improving the cover or title to layout and
design.
