Amazon launched its Kindle Worlds fan fiction platform just over a year ago, and the concept has been a great success for both the rights holders who license content to the site and the fans who adore the concepts and story lines of their favorite authors.

But for avid fans of the story lines themselves, the greater emphasis in the last couple of years on bringing comics to readers in digital format has been well received, especially with comic publishers who are re-releasing their back list titles or making it a policy to release the digital edition the same day that the print editions arrive in stores.

Other trends that will be followed in the coming year will include a more scientific sci - fi, more emphasis on biographies and history for younger readers, more cartoon - based novels like the popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series, strong female protagonists and survival / adventure stories, and a greater appreciation for diversity in both the characters and the story lines of these titles.

While DC Comics has reinvented and upgraded its characters and story lines over the years to keep up with a changing culture and new generations of reader fans that have come along, the technology behind this re-release will mean greater access for fans of any ilk, no matter the geographical barriers to purchasing the comics on issue day.
