February does not have a high number
of high profile games coming out on the Wii U, and would be a perfect time to release Rayman Legends, instead of what will be a highly competitive September.
Let's not forget that there's
plenty of high profile games launching in the final months of 2016, games that also require some time to be completed like Watch Dogs 2, South Park: The Fractured But Whole and others., and games with solid multiplayer portions like Battlefield 1, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered that players will enjoy for months.
I'm sure there were some people in Japan who liked being able to sample a few recipes, but it's nice to see Nintendo putting some demos
of high profile games on the service.
Or maybe, as someone linked to an article earlier that explained this very well, is that the game released amongst a
rush of high profile games that sell on name alone during the holiday season.

The system has
