Local scoring of the instructional portfolios will be completed through use
of a holistic rubric, assessing TEKS mastery, student growth, student ability to engage in a writing process, obtain feedback from teachers and / or peers, revise drafts, reflect on their own writing process, and produce multiple styles of writing.

Unlike those
rubrics, the single - point
rubric includes only guidance on and descriptions
of successful work — without listing a grade, it might look like the description
of an A essay in the
holistic rubric above.
In one, Herman, Gearhart, and Baker (1993) were able to get satisfactory levels
of interrater agreement for portfolios containing only narrative and summary writing, but they discovered that students» scores were substantially different across different contexts (standard writing prompt vs. portfolio work; analytic vs.
holistic rubrics; scoring
of individual pieces vs. the total portfolio; narrative vs. summaries).
Both
holistic and analytic
rubrics can help teachers pinpoint different aspects
of language that should be assessed.
While I do use only one
holistic rubric, it allows me, the instructor, to provide feedback aligned to the developmental stages
of the learner.
