Before facing cage after cage
of homeless cats, consider your needs and expectations.
A few years ago, Kelsey started volunteering with a local animal rescue, fostering
homeless cats and kittens in need
of a place to stay
before finding their forever homes.
To compound our failure
of stewardship by systematically exterminating the
homeless cats caught in the current crisis
before the root cause
of their
homeless state is removed is morally unacceptable.
Even
before Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico on Sept. 20, the island was home to thousands
of homeless dogs and
cats.
Nevertheless, they were dedicated enough to spend their Saturdays arriving at the shelter
before dawn, bathing and grooming the dogs and
cats (since that job was rarely tackled by the shelter staff during the work week), loading them into portable cages, hoisting the cages into their cars and trucks, driving about 10 miles to the nearest shopping center, unloading the cages from the vehicles, calming the by - now terrified dogs and
cats, and imploring the public for the next eight hours to please consider adopting one
of these
homeless creatures.
Since one
of our goals is to reduce the number
of homeless animals, all dogs and
cats are spayed or neutered
before being made available for adoption.
