of seasonal fruit is a favourite snack, but I also love brown rice cakes with tahini and chia seeds, a small smoothie, fresh juice, or some
homemade crackers with
nut butter.
The
butter beans taste completely divine smothered in
homemade pesto, which is bursting with flavour thanks to the amazing combination
of fresh basil leaves, pine
nuts, garlic and lemon juice.
I usually take jars
of nut butter, make a batch
of my superfood crackers, kale chips, energy balls,
homemade granola, cans
of chickpeas and beans, tahini, raw
nuts and seeds.
I added a tablespoon
of some cashew
nut butter I made, and injected them with
homemade salted caramel sauce after scooping out the cookie dough.
I love mine topped with lots
of fresh fruit,
nut butter and my sister - in - law's granola (a.k.a. the Best
Homemade Granola you'll ever have!)
Because they're so nutritious all by themselves, I don't add any type
of oil to any
homemade nut butters.

An easy
homemade treat, a mixture
of dates and your choice
of nut butter dipped in chocolate make for a nice sweet bite.
Forgo the maple syrup and top with
homemade almond milk and a spoonful
of nut butter.
Then I chase this with a plate
of slices narnies and blubes with some
homemade nut butter — super easy and a range
of colours.
Mason jars, most
of us use them for storing
nuts, seeds, sauces, jams, and even
homemade body
butters, but did you know that they are also perfect for storing your favourite salads for the ultimate lunch on the go?
Good,
homemade granola is slightly sweet, wonderfully crunchy, and chock - full
of delicious extras —
nuts, dried fruit, warm spices, coconut, or pretty much anything else you could think
of that would be delicious smothered in a little
butter and sugar and baked up to crispy perfection.
When I make waffles, I often top them with
homemade nut butter, a sprinkle
of cinnamon, and a light drizzle
of honey.
I usually have a
homemade nut butter of some type, and often have some flavor
of hummus in my refrigerator.
It's seems that a slab
of homemade bread made with flour milled on the premises, spread with locally produced raw milk
butter or organic
nut paste, isn't out
of line.
Bread pudding is one
of my favorites and this recipe is quite similar to my own «method» (meaning that I do not use a real recipe but incorporate what is on hand with the basic ingredients) My very, very best version uses leftover,
homemade biscuits that have been split,
buttered and toasted... add some dried peaches cut into small pieces, the plumped cranberries, toasted
nuts and usually a chopped apple.
Grab your bowl, add some
of the oatmeal, top with the hot banana slices,
nut butter and

Nut - Free Carrot Cake: Top the cake with your favorite vanilla nondairy yogurt or a thin layer
of coconut

I love
butter made out
of nuts and if I have to make a choice among all the
nut butters,
homemade almond
butter would be my absolute favourite.
O yum, I haven't thought
of adding fruit to
homemade nut butters!
A typical full day
of eating for me looks like: Breakfast: Spinach, Mushroom, Onion and Tomato Frittata... sometimes with bacon or
homemade sausage Iced Coffee with coconut milk Lunch (this is usually my largest meal
of the day): 4 - 5 ounces
of protein (turkey burger, pulled pork, chicken thighs, ground buffalo), roasted veggies and sometimes a sweet potato or butternut squash Snack: apple with almond
butter or a handful
of macadamia
nuts Dinner: A large salad with all kinds
of raw veggies (cucumber, celery, carrots, cauliflower), avocado or olives, usually a lighter protein like grilled chicken breast, salmon or shrimp This would represent a full menu... I would say I hit this about 4 - 5 days a week, other days I may omit the snack or keep the snack and omit a meal, if i do that though I would add a bit
of protein with it.
I've tried this delightful
homemade nut butter recipe out a couple
of times and each time I basically ate the whole jar in a day.
A combination
of nut butter, dried fruit, and lots
of seeds makes these chewy
homemade granola bars downright irresistible.
Coconut flour egg, bacon & cheese muffins Popcorn (popped in coconut oil and topped with melted
butter)-- we make popcorn for the movie theater, too Coconut flour blueberry muffins Grass - fed cheese
Homemade corn tortilla chips Soaked and dried
nuts Homemade sprouted flour crackers Whole, raw milk (in a sippy cup; sometimes I even bring two)-- it's impossible to get ANY kind
of milk on most airplanes these days; many airlines only have non-dairy creamer available Scrambled eggs — I put them in a Thermos container Bananas, oranges, apples, grapes — organic if possible
Homemade shortbread cookies — it's a great idea to pack a few cookies for those extra-tough times while traveling Raisins — organic if possible Grass - fed whole milk yogurt mixed with a little fruit - sweetened jam or honey — I put it in a Thermos

Just a touch
of sweetener, the new
nut butter, and some
homemade strawberry chia seed jelly.
There's no comparison between
homemade nut butter and store - bought for Mark Overbay, founder
of the handcrafted
nut butter company Big Spoon Roasters, as long as you follow his rules
of the road.
Even the
nut -
butter base
of these bars is
homemade.
One
of my biggest concerns with
homemade protein bars / balls was the use
of peanut
butter and
nuts / peanuts in the recipe.
Instead
of sunflower seed
butter, I used
homemade almond
butter (alas, my brownies were not
nut - free) and instead
of vanilla extract I used 1 tsp ground vanilla bean.
I made them in a square cookie bar pan, and added, a mini muffin size,
homemade nut butter cup to the center
of each brownie before baking @ 350F for 15 - 17 minutes.
With the smooth turn
of a dial, transform roasted
nuts into
homemade butter and whole grains into gluten - free flours.
This cashew
butter and macadamia
nut butter blend is one
of my favorite
homemade nut butters.
From dried fruit dipped in cashew
butter to freshly
homemade almond milk to toasted pine
nuts in salads... They are a lovely addition to the repertoire
of texture in food.
Blend 1/2 cup hot water + 1/2 cup
nut milk (
homemade hemp or cashew is my favorite) + 1 teaspoon matcha + 1 teaspoon healthy fat (coconut
butter, coconut oil, creamy
nut butter) + 1 to 2 teaspoons adaptogens (I rotate between reishi, mucuna pruriens, moringa, ashwagandha, and cordyceps) + 1 scoop
of grass - fed collagen peptides or plant - based protein powder + a pinch
of cinnamon.
Some
of my favorites are mixed
nuts, individual almond
butter packets, beef jerky, fruit,
homemade nut snack balls, or chopped vegetables, such as carrots, celery, cucumber, and bell peppers.
As a sugar substitute, honey can add a touch
of sweetness to foods like yogurt,
nut butter,
homemade dressings or marinades.

In way
of caffeine, I substitute my usual green or black tea with a blend
of energizing adaptogenic herbs and mushrooms (cordyceps, maca, rhodiola, schisandra) and brain - boosting fats (coconut
butter, coconut MCT oil,
homemade nut / seed milk) for an elevating but mood - supporting tonic.
I talked about it in my post for how to make
homemade nut butter, but it can take upwards
of 15 minutes to make depending on your machine.
With that said, more breakfast / lunch ideas (I eat the same foods for both categories): BEANS — they are the super food
of my life and a can / 2 cups
of it can fill you up for hours without feeling sluggish; fish for breakfast is extremely satisfying too — like smoked salmon or salted cod with a boiled potato or plantain; pizza — nuff said; boiled eggs in a salad or boiled eggs with potato, avocado and
homemade dressing (tahini, evoo, lemon juice, water, salt and pep); SMOOTHIES with chia seeds or
nut butters
Justin's All Natural Chocolate Hazelnut
Butter is a yummy combination
of hazelnuts and
homemade chocolate without all
of the sugar and crazy additives that some dessert - like
nut butters have.
So while the rest
of the country was going
nuts over bacon ice cream, bacon wrapped turkey, and bacon cookies, I was enjoying favorite
homemade peanut
butter ice cream, regular ol' brined turkey, and double dark chocolate chip cookies.
