A pastoral approach recognises that desperation is precisely at the heart
of the homosexual person's experience.
Also, for Oliva, Aquinas places the origin of the inclination for gay sex in the soul
of the homosexual person.
This is the position held in the Vatican letter «On the Pastoral Care
of Homosexual Persons» issued last October to all the bishops of the world.

Homosexual people will be accepted as equal, full human beings, who have a legitimate claim on every right that both church and society have to offer any
of us.
Father John Harvey states (in The
Homosexual Person: New Thinking in Pastoral Care) that some
homosexuals may be victims
of truly compulsive behavior and as such deserve our special sympathy and understanding; but even these unfortunate individuals, he notes, may exercise the choice to seek help.

people who watch Stephen Colbert, who is a self - identified faithful member
of a Church that teaches that

Christians need to send the opposite message

Chaste

of our sexuality, and in so doing proclaim the good news that truth is neither autonomous nor heteronomous, but participatory.
