For example,
children with the
hyperactive type
of ADHD often end up making friends with much younger kids, since kids their own age don't like playing with them.

ADHD and ODD may be offered as a combined diagnosis when
hyperactive children show a pattern
of hostility to peers and authority figures.
The
Child Behaviour Checklist is a commonly used test for
children from 2 to 16 years
of age to monitor their well being, such as whether they are anxious, uncommunicative, depressed, aggressive, delinquent, withdrawn or

Hyperactive Impulsive Type had significantly higher scores than those diagnosed as Predominantly Inattentive Type in anxious and avoidant attachment, emotionality, and activity dimensions
of temperament, and their parents reported higher levels
of controlling styles.
Anxiety, depression, and learning disabilities were recently found to co-occur more frequently in
children with the inattentive subtype
of ADHD, and disruptive behavior disorders co-occurred more frequently in
children presenting with
hyperactive / impulsive symptoms.
Children are particularly likely to become rejected if they show a wide range
of conduct problems, including disruptive,
hyperactive, and disagreeable behaviors in addition to physical aggression.
Usually the
child who is problematic from the first day
of school is identified as
hyperactive.
Despite these findings, the present study leaves open the possibility that
hyperactive - impulsive and inattentive behaviors may worsen the outcome
of children displaying antisocial behaviors.

Teachers rated
hyperactive behaviors accurately for
children with ADHD; however, the ratings
of hyperactivity were much higher for the
children with ODD - like behaviors, showing a halo effect for
children with ODD.
The National Center for Health Statistics reports that a
child of unwed or divorced parents who lives only with her or his mother is 375 % more likely to need professional treatment for emotional or behavioral problems.117 The
child is also more likely to suffer from frequent headaches118 and / or bed - wetting, 119 develop a stammer or speech defect, 120 suffer from anxiety or depression, 121 and be diagnosed as
hyperactive.122
The same cohort
of children was followed up at 30 months and reported significant reductions in
hyperactive behaviors (Rooney et al., 2013b).
These results support the predictive validity
of parental assessment
of hyperactive — impulsive behaviors during the preschool years and their use to identify
children at risk for further evaluation and possible intervention.
