You see, it's been insanely hot here in Seattle, lately (90 + degrees... try to keep in mind that most buildings do not have
air conditioning here and it's kind
of the worst), and
icy concoctions are all that's on my mind.
In December the five
of us traveled to the Vail Mountain Lodge and Spa for a weekend
of skiing for the big kids and my husband, and mountain adjustment for baby and I. Even though we live at 5280, a mile above sea level, it's still an adjustment for everyone, especially when the
air is
icy and crisp.
The Delta
Air Lines flight that crash landed at LaGuardia Airport yesterday morning skidded off a runway that had just been cleared
of snow and came to rest just inches short
of the
icy waters that surround the terminal.
Future wet suits with surface textures like the thick fur
of otters that trap insulating
air layers could keep tomorrow's divers warmer in
icy waters.
They also insulate their bodies with fur, blubber and, in the case
of emperor penguins, by huddling en masse against the
icy Antarctic winds that can bring the
air temperature down to -60 °C.
Instead, they listen idly to the
icy air swooshing upward as the cage plunges into the guts

Both are incredibly soothing to your stomach (and I find mentally as well — on a hot day, a few bites
of mint is like an
icy gust
of fresh
air for your insides).
But, this amazing
icy - hued Alfred Shaheen dress from Jess James + Co (a new local favorite) was just asking for a bit
of chill in the
air and 12 layers
of froth and wool and sparkle.
Clad in elbow - length suede gloves, pearls, draped dresses in
icy tones, and delicate scarves resting atop up - dos, the all - star model lineup
of Donna Karan's fall show had unmistakable
airs of Grace Kelly about them as they floated through the Chelsea space.

of so many serious and emotionless films that only seek to win prizes.
There is just something magical about the thought
of a V - 10 engine piercing the brisk,
icy air of winter at 8,500 rpm as rooster tails
of snow spray from all four wheelwells.
Striding through the
icy tunnels
of Hoth as Darth Vader, cutting down rebel scum with ease; battling the Imperial forces on the forest moon
of Endor as Luke Skywalker while the Empire's dreaded AT - AT stomps ever closer to victory; watching as a X-Wing comes screaming downwards for a perfect strafing run on an AT - ST; feeling a chill run down my spin as a team - mate is suddenly yanked up into the
air and choked to death, the sure sign that I'm seconds away from death as Darth Vader himself comes into view; defending an AT - AT as nothing more than a Stormtrooper, witnessing raging battle on both land in the sky.
We then move on to Alaska, an
icy environment which throws some huge jumps at us where we grab some pretty impressive
air time and
of course there's always the very intense sense
of speed that never fails to impress us.
The landscape, which simulates an
icy sea, is generated by a daily data feed
of air temperatures in Qaanaaq, Greenland.
Teach children how to slowly fill their lungs up with ice - melting
air when they feel overwhelmed, and then let out an
icy blast
of wind.
