I am not a fan
of icy sidewalks / pavement either.

of the icy sidewalk at the entrance to its patio, where a woman fell and broke her ankle in a 2007 accident.

Although we are in the middle
of a summer heat wave, a July 10, 2013 decision by Justice Johnston in Grant v The Corporation
of the City
of Kingston and Queen's University, ONSC 4689 (CanLII) has caused me to consider legal issues regarding a claim for damages for personal injuries arising from a mid-winter slip and fall incident on an
icy sidewalk.
With respect to
icy sidewalks, the law will take into account severe weather storms when determining a municipality's liability, in addition to a number
of other considerations including: pedestrian traffic, length
of time dangerous conditions existed, reasonableness
of the expectation that city would rectify problem.
