Microbial cycling
of isoprene, the most abundantly produced biological volatile organic compound on Earth — Terry J. McGenity — The ISME Journal
In polluted environments increased temperatures and larger temperature - sensitive emissions
of isoprene cause enhanced ozone levels.
Researchers found that the volatility and oxidation state
of isoprene SOA are sensitive to, and exhibit a nonlinear dependence on, NOx levels.

The researchers made the printed batteries flexible and stretchable by incorporating a hyper - elastic polymer material made from
isoprene, one
of the main ingredients in rubber, and polystyrene, a resin - like component.
This observation helps reconcile the seemingly contradictory observations
of the NOx effect on
isoprene SOA volatility reported in previous literature studies.
To help address this challenge, a team
of U.S. Department
of Energy researchers conducted laboratory experiments in an environmental chamber to investigate the effects
of NOx on the volatility and chemical composition
of SOA generated by
isoprene photooxidation.
On the other hand, β - pinene, myrcene and
isoprene, produce much less ELVOC's, which are an important biogenic sources for the formation
of particles in the atmosphere,» emphasizes Dr. Torsten Berndt
of TROPOS, who was involved in all three publications.
Additional aerosol mass composed
of organosulfate and organonitrate chemicals can then form via nitrogen oxide - initiated oxidation
of VOCs from natural vegetation (e.g.,
isoprene) in the presence
of highly acidic ultrafine particles.
[1] For example, it has been demonstrated that blends
of 2 linear triblock polymers poly (
isoprene)- block - poly (styrene)- poly (2 - vinylpiridine) leads to an ordered array
of rectangular - shaped cylinders with 4-fold symmetry in bulk, which could be very interesting for surface nanopatterning if prepared in the form
of thin films.
When
isoprene is in the presence
of human - made sulfate particles it transforms into atmospheric organic aerosol particles.
At Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Dr. Alla Zelenyuk and her team took on a specific part
of that haze: originated from
isoprene.
Analyses
of the ground and aircraft data performed by Setyan et al. (2012), Shilling et al. (2013), and Kleinman et al. (2016) showed that organic aerosol production increased when human - caused emissions from Sacramento mixed with air rich in
isoprene, an organic compound wafting from many plants that originate in the area's foothills.
June 28, 2016 — Dogs could help protect type 1 diabetes patients against dangerous drops in blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia), according to researchers. They believe dogs can detect higher levels
of a chemical called
isoprene in the breath
of diabetes patients... Read more
«Concerns about climate change and energy security are driving an aggressive expansion
of bioenergy crop production and many
of these plant species emit more
isoprene than the traditional crops they are replacing,» the paper states.
But as you may know, I am talking about the rising leading edges
of AOT plots which relate to early stage cloud formation (i.e. nucleation — presumably via DMS,
isoprenes etc emitting by cyanobacterial blooming).
Effects
of anthropogenic emissions on aerosol formation from
isoprene and monoterpenes in the southeastern United States
• biological aerosol seeding
of clouds (phytoplankton and forests releasing
isoprenes, Lovelock, Makarieva / Gorshkov), • and the «biotic pump hypothesis» (Makarieva / Gorshkov) •... among others... In addition, AGW - theory advocates systematically downplay the number and contribution
of damping / stabilizing (or «negative») feedbacks (both
of heat and CO2) in the global climate system — most implicated directly or indirectly with the activities
of life, as illustrated in point # 3.
Increased biomass can lead to increased emissions
of biogases such as dimethyl sulfide and
isoprene, which when oxidized in the atmospheric form sulphate and organic aerosols that can nucleate clouds, increasing cloud cover and planetary albedo — the CLAW Hypothesis.
Although biogenic NMVOC emissions increase with increasing temperature, all three studies concur that climate - driven changes in vegetation types unfavourable to
isoprene emissions (notably the recession
of tropical forests) would partly compensate for the effect
of warming in terms
of ozone generation.
(3) increasing the flux
of biogenic aerosols (DMS,
isoprenes etc) being put into the atmosphere and hence the global concentration
of CCN (Cloud Condensation Nuclei).
Run at year 2030 (SSTs as in # 1), 4 year runs (+2 - month initialization), model's own distribution
of given emission scaled uniformly: 2.1: +100 Tg / yr
isoprene (scale existing source to add 100 Tg / yr).
