Contrast the response of the science of obstetrics to the pseudoscience
of lactivism in the face of paradigm shifting scientific evidence.
I learned, on encountering the world
of lactivism and attachment parenting that I had assumed would be a good fit for me, as I imagined both feminist, that I was not good enough, not mom enough, not enough, no matter what I did.
That was my first impression and I thought the reaction was overkill, but she seems to be aligned with a side
of lactivism that is well beyond the «breast is best» message.
Within several years of the NestlÈ disaster, WHO came out with its famous Code, an outpouring of studies suggesting the superiority of breastmilk hit the medical journals, and an international conference was convened to create the Innocenti Declaration, which could be considered the cornerstone
of lactivism.

lactivism, are really about achievement and not about parenting.

By aggressively promoting their own choices, aggressively demeaning the choices
of other mothers, and aggressively insisting that anyone who makes different choices is implicitly criticizing them, advocates
of attachment parenting, homebirth,
lactivism, etc. encourage the very conflicts that they claim to deplore.
It was mean and nasty, as is most
of contemporary
lactivism.
People want to do the best thing for their babies,
of course, but
lactivism pushes this to the extremes, and in the process alienates people who might listen to a more sensible approach.

of women / C - sections / medicated births /
lactivism shown in this film.
Despite the proven health benefits
of breast milk (it lowers the risk
of diarrhea, pneumonia, and ear infections), underlying this «
lactivism» is a sinister anti-feminist vibe, argues a piece in The Observer this morning.
Yet that hasn't stopped social media from fueling the rise
of «
lactivism,» or moms and health experts strongly advocating for breastfeeding over bottle - feeding.
Can I just say that recently the Academy
of Breast Feeding Madison wrote a blog about
lactivism and the breastfeeding backlash, I think it was in October
of last year, and what they said that any woman who has just had a baby would probably see a lactivist as the enemy.
The recent response
of lactivists to the growing body
of evidence that aggressive breastfeeding promotion is injuring and in some cases killing infants suggests that
lactivism is a form
of pseudoscience.
