local school district is preparing for the possibility
of teacher layoffs,
higher taxes and even shutting down a
school.
The New York State Board
of Regents is expected to act on two committee reports Tuesday, calling for a delay the impact
of Common Core - related state assessments on educators and students and reducing the level
of local school district testing associated with the new
teacher evaluation law and
higher standards for teaching and learning.
It is uncertain whether other
school districts can replicate these effects, because they depend on factors that many have little control over (including the
local supply
of high - performing
teachers), as well as those they do control (for instance, the introduction
of meaningful
teacher evaluation).
«I never went to drama
school, but from
high school, or really the age
of nine, I did this drama class with a
local teacher and it was almost completely improvised,» recalls Lynskey.

Although informing people
of the ranking
of the
local school district changes their views
of teachers unions, the shift in opinion depends on whether the
local district has a
high or low ranking relative to other districts.
In order to achieve this, the Commission suggests the government should mandate all
schools in the ten lowest performing
local authorities to take part in area - wide programmes, as well as reform the training and distribution
of teachers across the country and create new incentives — including better starting pay — to get more
