I love sweet potatoes and the thought
of making hummus with it makes my mouth water x
So, when I saw ready made tahini at the store I snapped it up with plans
of making hummus all day err day.
I always buy canned chickpeas with the intention
of making hummus and end up roasting them instead.
I just cooked up 2 pounds of chickpeas yesterday in my slow cooker using Alton Brown's method with the intention
of making this hummus today.

For packed lunches I normally
make big batches
of quinoa and brown rice with apple cider vinegar / lime and salt and then do a big thing
of roasted veg — things like sweet potato and squash cubes, so I throw a mix
of that into a tupperwear with some raw veg — things like avocado, grated carrot, tomatoes and then some
hummus / lentils / chickpeas / seeds for protein.
While the pepper bakes
make the rest
of the
hummus.
and started me on my serious addiction
of making your homemade
hummus.
Making a batch
of homemade
hummus is seriously a cinch, and having basil from the garden definitely gives it a fresh flavor you just can't achieve with store bought varieties.
I
made a goal this month to eat more veggies, especially raw ones, so I've been taking a baggie
of sliced carrots, celery, and baby cucumbers to dip in
hummus (Oasis roasted garlic with hot sauce) as a snack.
I've tried
making hummus several times and I haven't liked any
of it.
We
make a double or triple batch (sometimes with half whole - wheat flour) and my kids take them in their lunches with all sorts
of fillings;
hummus, cream cheese and veggies, even peanut butter!!
Whenever I
made hummus in the past, it always required buying a giant jar
of tahini (the only size I could find) which then sat in my refrigerator for months until I remembered it was in there and threw it out.
Meanwhile to
make your
hummus: combine beans, garlic, lemon juice, basil, salt and pepper in the bowl
of a food processor.
I'd puree the beans too and
make some sort
of a
hummus like dip.
Now, for
hummus, on the other hand, it does
make a small difference in the smoothness
of it — but it really takes a lot
of time and we don't bother with that either.
I love
making hummus because it's one
of those recipes that is protein - packed (thanks to the mighty chickpea) and it's so adaptable.
Lunch: A snack plate
made up
of carrots, celery, Whole Wheat Sesame Crackers and
hummus, pomegranate seeds and a pumpkin oatmeal bar.

I've been
making a ton
of hummus these past few weeks and was wondering if I could do that in order to lighten the dip.
Hummus is a Levantine Arab dip
made of chickpeas, blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic.
You might think I am crazy but I am planning to freeze some portions
of cooking water the next time I cook chickpeas just to be sure I have some when I want to
make this
hummus without cooking fresh chickpeas.
However, the
hummus, or perhaps the combination
of the
hummus and the white cheddar,
made it very salty.
Then I'll roast up lots
of veggies and
make a large batch
of hummus («cos
hummus is life) and then they go into lock - tight containers and I use them all week.
We all love to
make hummus, but why not try
making it using hemp seeds, a legitimate super food chock full
of goodness.
I often
make my
hummus in my vitamix; the downside is that you lose so much
of it in the bottom.
Curried Chicken Pitas with Cucumber Yogurt Sauce are fresh and healthy pita sandwiches with little patties
made of delicious, curry - spiced ground chicken,
hummus, veggies, and a homemade cucumber yogurt sauce.
Some
of our favorites that I
make are: grilled meat and vegetable kabobs served with naan bread, or veggie
hummus wraps that have either a super soft pita bread or a spinach wrap that's slathered with
hummus, fresh vegetables, and feta cheese, or there's my personal favorite, Mediterranean burrito bowls that have either Basmati or Jasmine rice, Middle Eastern Salad Shirazi, grilled chicken, and
hummus.
I
make white bean dips all
of the time, but never tried
hummus for some reason.
If you blend your
hummus with a hand held mixer, do grate the garlic cloves before giving them to the chickpeas, to
make sure you will not have any larger pieces
of it in your mouth later on.
I loved the unique combination
of lime, coconut, and Thai curry paste with the usual
hummus flavors and I immediately thought, «I must try to
make this at home!»
I've never
made hummus before, and I've tasted it a few times, so I wouldn't be able to say yay or nay to any
of the ingredients.
Whilst chickpeas are still the base, there's also seaweed lettuce, lime juice, coconut milk and a whole other heap
of ingredients to really
make a creamy and yet distinctively different type
of hummus — which we all need now and then, right?
They have their own taste that
makes things like
hummus even more special.They also have the ability to become all kinds
of crunchy when roasted and will rival any chip or pretzel or salty bit
of goodness.
I've heard
of making quinoa
hummus but never tried it.

making some swaps, and baking rather than frying mine).

make from vegan or vegetarian diet,
hummus must be at the top
of that list.
Like most
of us, I fell for it at street stalls and takeout joints — it's not the sort
of thing I thought to
make at home, until about five years ago, when I discovered it's about as easy to
make as a batch
of hummus.
I
make it all the time even for breakfast when there's not much to put on a sandwich — a nice organic spelt bread with a spread
of hummus, spinach leaves and tomato from the garden
makes a perfect breakfast or lunch around here...
I would eat
hummus and pita as a snack nearly every day in college, I would go through several containers
of hummus every week, and I would even
make hummus and cheese sandwiches in law school.
