Yesterday we found this little wash stand and I thought it was the perfect piece to try some
of Miss Mustard Seed's new European
milk paint colors on.

of a novice at using
milk paint, but I had success with
painting a base coat in one
color, then using the wax puck in spots, and then
painting over the piece with a second
color of milk paint.
If you put a base coat
of milk paint on a piece with the bonding agent and then put a top layer on in another
color will you get that wonderful chipping?

One
of the ways to extend the creativity, is to literally make your own
colors using powdered pigments in OFMP's untinted
milk paint base.
Diane's old dresser got a couple coats
of Walmart's «County White», (it used to be
painted a
milk chocolate
color.)
In these cases, since the
milk paint likes to resist adhering to some areas and therefore naturally flakes off, the natural wood
color will peak through the brilliant or more neutral hues
of the
paint, creating a beautiful harmonic contrast.
With

They have been made in every
color from
milk glass to black glass, and in a variety
of finishes including frosting, iridizing, fired - on
painting, staining, and hand
painting.
Think about
painting walls, cupboards or wood furnishings with a fresh wash
of milk - white and add just a few homespun accents... for a splash
of color, hang a quilt on the wall from a curtain rod or throw it over a chair..........

Hemp oil is one
of my favorite topcoats over dark

One thing to keep in mind when choosing a topcoat is that all topcoats may change up the
color of milk paint to varying degrees.
Another time you may want to use it is when you have a surface that you know is going to really resist
milk paint far more than you want it to, you can
paint a first coat
of your
color with the bonding agent and then a second coat without.
So I decided to mix a custom
color of milk paint that was about halfway between the lighter Soft White and the darker Maritime.
This product comes in a selection
of colors (see them here), the natural option will have the least impact on your
milk paint color while the Cappucino will darken up your
color quite a bit.
