Note that before squaring workload, we first person - mean centered this variable due to the high risk
of multicollinearity otherwise.
However, analysis of regression structure coefficients (child report of adherence rs =.67, parent report of adherence rs =.59), which are not suppressed or inflated by collinearity, demonstrates that beta weights for adherence are low because
of multicollinearity between predictors, not poor relations with the outcome variable.
This presence
of multicollinearity between values of adherence and the family variables is as would be expected.
The means, standard deviations, and bivariate correlations among the model variables are summarized in Table I. Correlations among the predictors of engagement were modest and do not suggest the presence
of multicollinearity.
Bartlett's test of sphericity was statistically significant (χ2 = 1,763.72, df = 78, p <.001), and no evidence
of multicollinearity or singularity was found (Tabachnick and Fidell 2001).
Additionally, the correlation between any two variables did not reach the mean scale reliability, which shows no evidence
of multicollinearity according to Campbell and Fiske (1959).
Results from these tests showed that the assumption
of multicollinearity was not violated with VIF values less than 1.25 and Tolerance values above 0.93.
To deal with the issue
of multicollinearity in the data, all variables were examined using the Variance Inflation Factor (VIF) and Tolerance in SPSS.

However, there was not a strong
multicollinearity between velocity and our other predictor variables (tolerance values for velocity: amphibians = 0.51, mammals = 0.49, birds = 0.52, values differ due to the use
of different predictor variable subsets).
Given the
multicollinearity problems
of my model, here is what I think I know:
In spite
of significant intercorrelations among some
of the predictor variables, none
of these correlations approached the level -LRB-.70 or higher) suggestive
of significant problems with
multicollinearity (Tabachnick & Fidell, 1996, p. 86).
On the basis
of this examination and approach to modeling, 35
multicollinearity was deemed to have minimal effect in respect to the final models.
We were able to estimate a stable model, though, by constraining ORs for particular types / numbers
of disorders to be the same in predicting both planned and unplanned attempts unless the interaction
of the predictor with plans in the pooled model was significant at the α level
of.05 and had an estimated variance inflation factor (a diagnostic test suggesting that a regression coefficient might be affected by
multicollinearity)
of less than 10.0.
In the current study, although
multicollinearity was not indicated, there was a significant correlation between the two subscales
of the HADS.

multicollinearity matters: A reexamination
of relations between self - efficacy, self - concept, and achievement / Journal

Analysis
of both the standardized regression weights and the structure coefficients suggests that despite
multicollinearity between adherence reports and family functioning, adherence is related to metabolic control.
