Most adults need 7 or more hours of sleep per night and are unable to function well after less than 6
hours of nightly sleep.
According to one study, «adherence to a bedtime routine was concurrently associated with a greater
amount of nightly sleep at 36 and 42 months.
Getting at least seven
hours of nightly sleep is a key to overall health, which translates to less sick time away from work,» said American Academy of Sleep Medicine President Dr. Timothy Morgenthaler, a national spokesperson for the Healthy Sleep Project.
The National Sleep Foundation in the United States recommends that infants (4 - 11 months) get between 12 to 15 hours
of nightly sleep.
Studies suggest that short sleepers may have a gene mutation that enables them to function well on less than 6 hours
of nightly sleep.
