Most pumps will include at least a couple of bottles with nipples and bottle collars,
samples of nipple cream, breast pads, and milk storage bags.
Nursing pads can also stick to your nipples if you don't use some
type of nipple cream and it hurts quite a bit to pull them off.
I had to get used to the sensation of nursing and there was a
lot of nipple cream being used in the beginning.
One of the most common versions
of nipple creams on the market is the lanolin - based type of cream.
Most popular
brands of nipple cream contain concentrated lanolin and while these may help mom heal more quickly, this is also becoming part of baby's first food and more natural options can be effective as well.
Cleaning — Feeding your baby can get messy with spills, spit up and even the occasional
swipe of nipple cream.
You will also need to make sure you are rubbing some
sort of nipple cream (coconut oil, Bamboobies, olive oil, or whatever you can find that is safe for baby) on your nipples, areola, and breast shield.
With my first child, I was given a sample
of this nipple cream in the hospital, and it helped so much over the first few days that I ordered a full size immediately.
Most lotions and creams make the areola slippery and so when your baby is trying to get a deep latch, they slide off,
because of the nipple cream.
At Week 1, a sample
size of nipple cream was included for mothers to help reduce sore nipples, a known inhibitor to breastfeeding at this stage (Schwartz et al., 2002) and the developmental milestones pamphlet was presented as a way for fathers to track their baby's progress and growth to increase their self - confidence and understanding of normal infant behaviour and development.
Usually, this language is used one of two ways: to refer to how much work goes into exclusively breastfeeding a child, including long hours, late nights, and tons and
tons of nipple cream; or to refer to how it's a mother's obligation to breastfeed.
I've used another brand
of nipple cream for this purpose and even though that one was good this one is better (and cheaper!).
Over time (with the
help of nipple cream and JT's mouth getting bigger), it became less and less uncomfortable and eventually (within a month) completely comfortable (and I weaned off the nipple cream).
There are several different kinds
of nipple creams on the market now: lanolin, lanolin - free, organic, non-GMO, and hypoallergenic are the main categories of nipple creams.
If you want to enjoy feeding your baby, it will be great if you purchase
any of the nipple creams that I have reviewed above.
