As on the other islands, the National Park Service has made great efforts to preserve and protect these island resources, including enforcement of marine protected areas, stabilization of cultural sites, rehabilitation of historic buildings, removal
of nonnative plants and animals, recovery of island foxes, and reestablishment of bald eagles.
Research published Dec. 1 in the online edition of the journal Ecology Letters suggests that the invasion
of nonnative plants is strongly related to what type of mycorrhizal fungi are dominant in forest ecosystems.

of pollinating insects as our ecological friends, but in the wrong place
nonnative bees can spell trouble instead by competing with native insects, promoting reproduction in
nonnative plants and potentially spreading disease.

plants; soil; cut flowers; firewood or any untreated, unfinished wood (including hiking sticks); corrugated boxes; tools or equipment with attached soil; motorized vehicles; bicycles; and single - use plastic grocery bags.
