all in the child's interest so whenever people frown at the idea
of nursing a baby longer i always wonder if they truly love there baby or care more about what people think.
Not exact matches
There is a hungry
baby, blinking eyes at the light
of life and a mama
longing to
nurse, open mouths and wonder at what you have just done, arms that suddenly don't feel quite attached to our body unless there is that little person in them.
I did not have a bad opinion about mothers who
nursed for
long time, but I thought that I will be done by 12 months... Well our son didn't think so;)... He
nursed exclusively and constantly until 8 months old, at this stage he would start accepting some
baby food (mind u, he was allways in the 95 %
of weight).
You can't spot a
long term
nursed baby just by the shape
of their mouths (although the half - moon cheek is a dead giveaway.)
Most
of my friends and acquaintances
nursed their second
babies as
long or
longer than their first.
Most ring slings also include
long tails
of fabric that can easily be draped over you and your
baby to offer some discreetness and privacy when it comes time to
nurse.
But if the thought
of a monochrome hospital room and rotating
nurses makes you
long for your own cozy and familiar belongings — consider having your
baby at home.
If
babies are allowed to hold their bottle and drink from it slowly, and for a
longer period
of time, it allows the milk to stay in the mouth for a
longer period
of time, resulting in
nursing caries.
Not only did I end up
nursing my two oldest children much
longer than expected, I also struggled greatly with the idea
of giving my
babies a bottle.
And
of course, if you're really worried about the potential risks
of tattoos during breastfeeding, you can always wait until your
baby is no
longer nursing to make the decision to get inked.
I had expected to nurture a full - term
baby, to show my love in the usual ways —
nursing, holding, bathing — but none
of that would be possible for a
long time.
All that said, know that as
long as you aren't sucking down Jell - O shots and then
nursing your
baby, the occasional beer with your pizza or glass
of wine with your bubble bath doesn't have to be avoided like the plague.
Besides helping to build up a healthy supply
of breast milk, alternating breasts in the same feeding can keep a sleepy
baby nursing longer, provide more breast milk at each feeding to a newborn who needs to gain weight, and it may even help to keep your breasts from becoming too uneven.
The amount
of hindmilk your
baby gets on the second side depends on how
long your
baby nurses on that side.
Long gone are the days
of nursing mothers being asked to cover up,
of moms feeding their
babies in the bathroom, or
of new mothers breastfeeding in the car because they're too worried about someone saying something derogatory.
It helps to support a plentiful, healthy milk supply and you will be more likely to stick with
nursing for a
longer period
of time, which we all know is best for
baby!
These observations are consistent with current research if we assume the researchers were observing
babies with a fairly typical
nursing pattern, where
baby has a
longer sleep period at night and gradually decreases the amount
of time between
nursing as the day progresses.
And, if you are like a lot
of nursing moms, you are primarily concerned with getting the perfect latch, and are willing to withstand a bit
of neck and back discomfort as
long as the
baby is latching on and breastfeeding successfully.
Actually, sore nipples usually result from improper positioning
of the
baby on the breast, not from
long nursings.
One way to accomplish this is by «block
nursing» — mom
nurses baby as frequently as usual but restricts
baby to one breast for a set period
of time (often 3 - 4 hours but sometimes
longer) before switching sides.
What I would do, is always have a mug filled with water on the bedside table, so while
baby would
nurse (or I would pump for when she no
longer woke up at night) I would make it my goal to drink at least half
of the mug
of water.
And, when your
baby nurses longer, he'll be able to get to that creamier, higher - fat hindmilk at the end
of the feeding.
Carefully overlooked by my adoring sister (you'll notice her in some
of our photos), this tank is extra
long, and the chest * cut - out * area has been widened to increase comfort while
nursing your precious
baby.
What really surprised me was how much we'd become
nursing elitists, my husband and I. I didn't realize how proud I was
of having
nursed my
baby successfully and for so
long.
So, if a mom has a glass
of wine at 8 p.m., by the time she
nurses her
baby at midnight that alcohol is almost certainly
long gone.
Even when the taste and volume changes, we see a huge percentage
of babies continue
nursing for as
long as mom is willing, for the comfort alone.
Children who carry on breastfeeding beyond the age
of two years tend not to
nurse anywhere near as often or for as
long as
babies do.
Stop
nursing immediately and remove the little biter for a few seconds or a few minutes (you need to be the judge
of how
long is best — use your instincts by your
baby's reaction).
Additionally, do not keep track
of time when your
baby is
nursing comfortably; let him
nurse as much as he wants and as
long as he wants on one breast before allowing the switch.
You will want to keep track
of how
long each
baby nursed and on which side.
Switch
nursing will encourage a
baby to suck more vigorously for a
longer period
of time so the breasts are emptied to a greater extent during each feeding.
Or are you making a judgmental leap that
babies that
nurse «too
long» and are tended to at night will grow up to be weak, nervous, and incapable
of functioning independently on their own.....?
The American Academy
of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that your
baby have nothing but breast milk for the first six months
of life and to continue to
nurse until at least the age
of one year and as
long after is as mutually desired.
Nipple Cream — When you begin
nursing and when your
baby is a newborn, there will be a lot
of frequent and
long feedings.
Of those moms still breastfeeding their
babies at one week and who had ceased
nursing by the time they were surveyed, 46 % said they had breastfed their
babies for as

nurses hadn't suggested Kangaroo Care, and instead left my
baby in the incubator in those early days when my sense
of motherhood was most fragile and yet impressionable, I don't know what approach to parenting I might have adopted but I do know that it would have taken me much
longer to get to the current place in my parenting journey.
Whether your
baby is a newborn or into toddlerhood, you've probably heard
of women who
nurse their
babies long after the recommended year.
One
of the issues with switch
nursing is that a
baby may not breastfeed
long enough on either breast to get to the hindmilk.

I have to smile, I guess my
babies never read the textbook, both
of them
nursed every 2 hours 24 hours a day for years:) They also never slept a good 6 to 8 hour stretch for at least 10 years, thank goodness for teenagehood and
longer sleeps,
of course I am older now and the one doing all the night waking.
But if a mom's feel engorged most the time, after the
baby is a couple
of months old rather than just feeling engorged when her
baby hasn't
nursed for a while so it's when
babies starts to sleep
longer at night.
Emily was our postpartum doula / night

of several nights when we had our second
baby and that whole «sleep when the
baby sleeps» option was no
longer.
I don't recommend trying to watch TV or play video games while
nursing (though I did beat FFXII with my oldest), because there's too much temptation to continue the feeding «just to the end
of this show / level»
long after the
baby has stopped eating.
