It has been a remarkable evening for House
of Arras, as Ed Carr has just been awarded Winemaker
of the Year at the Australian Society
of Viticulture and
Oenology's Awards for Excellence, in Adelaide tonight.
This was borne out by research, such as a 2014 study by Jeremy Galbreath
of the Curtin Graduate School
of Business in Western Australia that found «the representation
of women in both winemaking and viticulture roles has declined since 2007, despite clear evidence to suggest that female enrolments in Australia's leading
oenology and viticulture degree programs have been on the rise since the 1980s».

He's also a South Australian local, completing his Bachelor
of Agricultural Science (
Oenology) at the University
of Adelaide.

Upon arrival in Australia he further developed his skills by focusing on
oenology and was appointed to the position
of Sommelier at Hotel Sofitel Melbourne in 1994 subsequently being awarded Best Hotel wine list in 1997.
Fellow co-author and joint lead researcher Dr Sue Bastian, Senior Lecturer in
Oenology, says: «These findings could be a boost to the wine grape industry as it value adds to what is essentially a by - product
of the winemaking process.»
