Fed was gearing up for a June rate hike and in a sense missed that opportunity because the data turned against them.

of ECONOMIC PROJECTIONS may be softer than the December FOMC meeting revealed.
In the minutes
of their December meeting,
Fed officials signaled stronger economic growth and improving labor markets would likely offset any inflation slowdown caused by
oil's slump.
This «Great Inflation,» as it is commonly known, was triggered by a combination
of adverse supply shocks (notably the 1973 and 1979
oil shocks) and an accommodative monetary policy stance, which appears consistent with upward revisions
of the
Fed's inflation target.
