of the employer / employee contractual relationship between Wenger and the club, has intimate insight in to the goals and objectives
of the business and the club — then everyone is filling in the gaps with their own version
of events and will necessarily always be a long, long way from anything close to any «truth».
They don't have the personal brands
of some
of the columnists, and the work
of attending press conferences, watching practices, cultivating
contacts and hundred
other things that good
sports journalists do is probably underappreciated by the fans at large.

sports require the athlete be stable in multiple planes
of motion, as well as be prepared for physical
contact with
other athletes.

of mind when you're playing
sports such as football, rugby, MMA and many
other fighting based
sports.
One way, I believe, to address the problem
of under - reporting and increase the chances a concussion will be identified early on the
sports sideline may be to rely less on athletes themselves to remove themselves from games or practices by reporting concussion symptoms (which the most recent study shows occurs at a shockingly low rate, [9] or on game officials and sideline observers to observe signs
of concussion and call for a concussion assessment, but to employ technology to increase the chances that a concussion will be identified by employing impact sensors designed to monitor head impact exposure in terms
of the force
of hits (both linear and rotational), number, location, and cumulative impact, in real time at all levels
of football, and in
other helmeted and non-helmeted
contact and collision
sports, where practical, to help identify high - risk impacts and alert medical personnel on the sideline so they can consider performing a concussion assessment.
In the end, it all comes back to education: In the ideal world, a parent's decision about whether to allow a child to start playing or continue playing collision
sports before high school under current rules
of play (which are evolving in the direction
of safety, fortunately, as seen, for instance, in USA Hockey's ban on body checking at the Pee Wee hockey level and below, and limits on full -
contact practices instituted at every level
of football, from Pop Warner, to high school, college, and the NFL), will be a conscious one; a decision in which the risks
of participating in a particular
sport - provided it is based on the most up - to - date information about those risks and a consideration
of other risk factors that might come into play for their child, such as pre-existing learning disabilities (e.g. ADHD), chronic health conditions (e.g., a history
of history
of multiple concussions or seizures, history
of migraines), or a reckless and overly aggressive style
of play - are balanced against the benefits to the child
of participating.
There are no studies that show a statistically significant increase in the likelihood
of CTE simply from playing football or
other contact or collision
sport, and none, as far as I know, are even in the research pipeline, but those who say it is too early to connect the dots, well, their voices are being drowned out by those who suggest exactly that.
That the game officials were apparently complicit is a bit
of a surprise, although, given the recent trend towards lax rules enforcement in
other contact and collision
sports, particularly hockey, I that it has surfaced in youth football shouldn't come as a shock, I guess.
It is a
contact sport, but it's not a collision
sport, which means its relatively safe compared to a lot
of other team
sports (especially
other forms
of football).
On the
other side
of the argument, industry leaders have been attempting to make the
sport safer, and criticisms have been raised about the methods used to determine risk and to make comparisons to
other contact sports.
The risk
of injury is much higher in mixed martial arts than in
other contact sports, including collegiate football.
Personally, I think it's curious how many physicians and mothers - to - be place such a high emphasis on the 0.11 % risk reduction
of neonatal mortality from hospital births, while thinking nothing
of engaging
other common practices (i.e. poor dietary habits, overuse
of antibiotics, participation in
contact sports) that certainly increase their child's lifetime risk
of chronic disease, injury, or even death.

In football, hockey and
other contact sports, protective headgear seems to have increased the risk
of concussion by providing a false sense
of security that encourages athletes to hit harder with their head.
The researchers recommended that future studies should collect information on the number
of past TBIs (including mild TBIs, as well as exposure to sub-concussive trauma through
contact sports and
other activities) along with time since TBI, which may play a significant role in cognitive change.
Human bites to the hand — while accounting for only two to three percent
of all hand bite injuries — can occur during altercations and include wounds caused by punching type
contact with the mouth or teeth, domestic abuse, or accidentally during
sports, play, or
other activities.
New research links amateur
contact sports — football, boxing, wrestling, rugby, basketball, baseball and
others played while in school — with the development
of CTE, which when severe can affect mood, behavior and cognition.
Neurologists have long suspected that
other contact sports might also lead to CTE — particularly rugby union because
of its emphasis on high - speed «hits».
Future studies also need to identify
other potential risk factors for persistent symptoms (e.g., sex) and should therefore include athletes
of different
contact sports and females.
Although this warning applies especially to athletes involved in collision and
contact sports (such as football, boxing, hockey, or soccer), excess weight may even increase the risk
of cognitive problems in people who have suffered one - off head injuries in car accidents or
other non-athletic situations, Amen says.

others when it comes to training for
contact and combat
sports e.g. high - low sequencing
of training, not sparring with full intensity too frequently etc..
