Early astronomers noted the presence
of other planetary bodies and named them after their deities, though our planet kept its connection to the «soil» — or in Latin terra.
And experiments aside, we have scores of empirical observations of rising temperatures, tropospheric lapse rates, energy flux measurements at the top of the atmosphere, modelling experiments, observations
of other planetary bodies (Venus is an excellent example of what happens when CO2 concentrations rise well beyond the point of spectral saturation) that all support the greenhouse theory of atmospheres.
The hydrospheres
of other planetary bodies are also the focus of research, to find places that humans can inhabit without having to transport all their water with them.
The researchers are interested in studying the effects of haze particles on the atmospheric energy balance
of other planetary bodies, such as Neptune's moon Triton and Saturn's moon Titan.

The new findings are observational evidence supporting the idea that icy
bodies are also present in
other planetary systems, and have survived throughout the history
of the star's evolution.
Fortunately, the risk
of contaminating the Red Planet is extremely slim, says Catharine Conley, NASA's
planetary protection officer, who is charged with ensuring agency projects do not contaminate
other solar system
bodies.
Although researchers have determined the ages
of rocks from
other planetary bodies, the actual experiments — like analyzing meteorites and moon rocks — have always been done on Earth.
The findings offer additional insight into the unusual and active geology on Pluto and, perhaps,
other bodies like it on the
planetary outskirts
of the solar system.
Other astronomers find the detections convincing, although most reserve the name «planet» for
bodies that form within a
planetary system and orbit stars, says theorist Alan Boss
of the Carnegie Institution
of Washington in Washington, D.C. «They should call them «
planetary - mass brown dwarfs,»» Boss says.
Outside
of Earth, Titan is the only
other planetary body in the solar system with actively flowing rivers, though they're fed by liquid methane instead
of water.
Such an intriguing metallic
planetary body has not been studied before by any spacecraft;
other asteroids visited have been
of the rocky variety.
Observations
of the planets, satellites, and small
bodies in the Solar system provide indispensable information about planet formation and evolution processes that remain unattainable for
other planetary systems.
During the simulations, it was found that the
planetary bodies would have to strike each
other at a rate
of 2.5 km (1.6 miles) per second to produce an impact plume with molten droplets that would cool at the correct rate to create chondrules with the characteristics we observe today.
The observations suggest that the dust was created by collisions in a Edgeworth - Kuiper - like belt
of icy
bodies, and that the orbital asymmetry could be an indication that the dust is being shepherded by an unseen
planetary companion — among
other explanations (Eiroa et al, 2010).
«There is a great deal
of interest in the microbes
of the Earth's crust because the strategies by which they survive may be similar to the earliest strategies
of life on Earth, and perhaps also on
other planetary bodies,» said Rachel M. Haymon, UCSB professor
of geology.
The new findings support the notion that belts
of icy
bodies are also in
other planetary systems, and have persisted throughout their star's development.
The scope
of COSPAR comprises space studies
of the Earth's surface, meteorology and climate; space studies
of the Earth - Moon system and
other bodies of the solar system, including the search for evidence
of life in the solar system; study
of planetary atmospheres including those
of the ever - expanding inventory
of exoplanets; space plasmas in the solar system; research in astrophysics from space; life sciences as related to space; materials sciences in space; and fundamental physics in space.
Whereas the Sun gives light to Earth as it does to
other planetary bodies, where does the Sun derive its source
of light?
The squid - inspired robot is a concept proposed to one day explore the seas
of Europa, one
of Jupiter's moons, or
other distant
planetary bodies.
Research areas included the structure
of Earth, Moon, and
other planetary bodies; the atmospheres
of Earth and the
other planets; the origin and evolution
of the solar system; the properties
of interplanetary plasma; Sun - Earth relations; and the structure and evolution
of stars.
The loss rate
of molecules through the exosphere is critical in determining whether Earth or any
other planetary body retains an atmosphere.
Until or unless the
planetary body is at the same temperature as deep space there will always be energy input at the bottom
of the atmospheric column (and a temperature gradient) and there will always be heat loss by radiation (or some
other means like boiling off
of the atmosphere) at the top
of the column.
The constantly changing Solar System Barycentre varies from being just «the
other side»
of the solar core to a solar radius outside the Sun's surface, introducing rapidly changing accelerations from
planetary bodies at varying latitudes and longitudes around the Solar
body.
In the fifteenth century, as intellectuals began to reconsider our planet's shape and position in the Universe, the word «Earth» first came to be used in reference to the
planetary body we know it as today and the term considered comparable to Mars, Venus, Saturn, and the
other spheres
of space.
