I'm not sure what these two
smaller tablets will offer over
other smartphones
of those sizes, such as their 3.5 - inch Aero, but having something to offer in the size brackets between the Dell Streak (pictured) and iPad is certainly logical.
And this applies in particular to the Note series, which we have seen on all the
other three Samsung Galaxy Note
tablets that have been packed with features and applications that have facilitated production and creativity as well as increased control over the general use, from the
smallest aspects to the more important ones, such as through Magazine UX, which is a way
of setting up and organizing the layout in a «magazine» like fashion, if you want.
Despite, and perhaps because
of, the iPad's nearly uncontested dominance in global
tablet sales, Google is cramming the Nexus 7 with features that, at least on paper, give the
tablet markedly better performance than the iPad Mini, and pretty much every
other small tablet on the market.
But beyond a
small handful
of headline options, the offers fall dramatically flat
of what you'll find on most
other tablets.
But I would argue on
other thing: where
tablets are best, outside
of reading, the market is
small.
The Mini's one - piece metal body feels more sturdy than than the Tab S» plastic build, but it comes down to a matter
of personal taste whether you prefer the matte metal
of the iPad or the dot - effect
of the Tab S. I'm personally quite keen on the bronze colour, which stands out quite a lot from the
other smaller tablets, most
of which tend to just come in various shades
of silver.
It may be a bit more expensive than
other smaller tablets, but TG claims it has «a lot
of features that set it apart from the pack,» in addition to excellent battery life and «useful multitasking controls.»
The device is also
smaller and lighter than any
of the
other Android or iOS
tablets I've seen, which is an added plus.
Apple completely owns one and all non-Apple
tablet vendors have to share space with each
other which leaves a very
small piece
of the pie to fight over.
It blows every
other small tablet out
of the water.
Some
other Dell Venue 8 Pro owners have even connected up to four displays, demonstrating the flexibility
of this
small tablet.
On the
other end
of the spectrum, devices like the iPad, iPhone and Android smart phones /
tablets have created a huge market for
smaller video games.

It's not a secret that Apple gives some information to a
small amount
of developers ahead
of others, and even the public, so something like this may not necessarily be a straightforward confirmation that Apple is indeed launching a new
tablet next week, or even that it will offer Apple Pencil support, but it does seem like a strong indicator in that direction.
In the US, samsung.com continues to link to AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and websites
of smaller carriers for its smartphones, but it does provide the ability to buy
other devices direct from the website such as
tablets.
Those looking for a Windows
tablet up to the task
of performing regular business activities — writing reports, let's say — would do better looking elsewhere for no
other reason than the relatively
small display and aspect ratio.
Huawei unveiled a couple
of tablets this week at MWC 2014, and while the MediaPad X1 is facing an identity crisis as to whether it's a
small tablet or a smartphone, the
other tablet announced, the MediaPad M1, with its 8 - inch display, falls squarely in the
tablet category, albeit also with voice - calling and text messaging capabilities.
Over the last two years, Microsoft has added dozens
of new hardware partners to its mobile ecosystem, thanks to its decision last year to drop the eye - watering Windows licensing fees that it had previously charged for phones,
