To find an
adoptable pet, users simply type in their location and a list
of possible adoptees from various nearby shelters and clinics pop
up.
But the
adoptable animals are just one part
of this story: for every
pet that ends
up in the shelter, there is a human component as well.
There are nearly six times as many homes opening
up every year as the number
of adoptable pets killed in shelters!
The new adoption center will free
up kennel space at the City
of Midland's animal shelter and allow
adoptable pets to live in a new
pet - friendly venue until they are adopted into lifelong homes.
Veterinary care makes
up a large portion
of Paw Works expenses, and we provide spay and neuter services, vaccines and microchipping for animals in need, along with providing urgent procedures for life - threatening conditions and many other treatments for unwanted dogs and cats that need special care in order to become healthy,
adoptable pets.
Many breed rescue groups post their
adoptable pets on Petfinder.com, and a surprising number
of pets that end
up in shelters are purebred.
The center will increase the shelter's capacity and enable it to hold groups
of adoptable pets —
up to 87 animals at a time for 10 - 14 days — to ensure they're healthy for transport.
Another neat thing that happened recently was that I had photographed one
of the
adoptable dogs at the shelter and he ended
up being adopted by a couple who were given a gift certificate for a
pet photography session and I will soon be doing his photo again....
In preparation for Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, animal welfare organizations across the country worked together to transport
adoptable shelter
pets from Florida and Texas to other areas
of the country to help free
up shelter space in the communities that were in the hurricanes» paths.

Each Thursday, a volunteer picks
up one
of the shelter's
adoptable dogs and takes the
pet to Starbucks from 9:30 a.m. until 10:15 a.m..
People dress
up their
pets in funky holiday sweaters and submit the photo through social media; meanwhile, the ASPCA promotes some
of its own
adoptable pets in the contest.

The Petfinder Foundation rushed grants out to shelters and rescue groups so that they could move
adoptable pets out
of the path
of disaster and open
up space for vulnerable strays, as well as lost
pets and those whose families were forced to evacuate.
When all
of the
adoptable pets are factored into this equation it could add
up to over $ 10,000 for just one day
of care.

The cages in the unit are generally used to carry
adoptable dogs and cats to various locations around the county, but for a few days they held and transported family
pets while families picked
up the pieces
of their lives.

up their
pets, and too few people adopt from shelters.
